Connecting AppleTV directly to PC...

Hi all,
If i wish to connect my AppleTV directly to my PC, do I need a router? Or can I connect from the AppleTV's ethernet port to my PC's ethernet port? If I could, do I need a crossover cable, or will a regular ethernet cable do?

I ask because I am out of disk space on my AppleTV and would rather stream directly from my PC using the faster wired solution instead of using my slower 802.11g network (I don't want to have to buy an 802.11N wireless router at this moment).

however i would recommend getting a router.
you say you already have a g wifi network? does this not already mean you have a router?

people report that even N or G wifi don't help much in sync
speed the sync time bottleneck seem to be elsewhere maybe
atv hd speed or something

Hi Chenks,
thanks for your response. I do have a router but it is in another part of my home. My PC and ATV are together in another room and they both have wireless capabilities. Streaming is slow because the signal from my PC goes to the router, then back to the ATV all at "g" speeds. I was thinking if I can connect the PC directly to the ATV via ethernet (crossover I suppose), then the data transfer will be much much faster. I was also thinking that in order to provide internet access to the ATV, I could route the internet signal that my PC receives from its wireless card to the ethernet port of the PC. I am hoping this can be done via software.

What do you think?

I have a g network - the initial sync (70gb) was a bear and I ended up plugging both directly into the router to finish the sycn. But after that, things seem to be fine over wireless.
