Camera icon won't show up on desktop.

Transfer 911
Bought a digital picture frame for a present due today.
Want to do a simple transfer of pictures from my iphoto library to the digital card in my nikon camera and then shoot pictures at the party then put in the chip in the Digital photo frame.
I have dragged and dropped from the iphoto library before so I know this works.
I've plugged in both nikon cameras I have but the icon's won't show up on the destop for me to open the card.
Why won't it recognize the cameras of all days-I have to get this done?
Thanks,

Mr. McTev

I have a Nikon P50.
With nothing opened I turn on the camera and it instantly opens iphoto.
No camera icon on the desktop.
I can import pictures but can't export back to the camera from the iphoto library.
Checked the menu in the P50 and found no settings for this.
Loaded the P50 software thinking that might do it. No dice.
My Nikon 8700 shows up on the on the desktop. I know, just use the 8700. Need to do this with the P50.

1 - have you looked at the camera manual? or the camera menus while you are connected to the Mac - on my Sony the menus are context sensitive and I can only get the USB settings menu while I have a USB connection

2 - you always can (and it is recommended) put the card in a USB card reader (I just purchased one at Radio Shack for $12.95) , export photos from iPhoto to a desktop folder and drag that folder to the card

I have a similar problem. Apparently Apple "fixed" the finder so that cameras only appear in iPhoto. This is great for ease of use but terrible for us in the nuts and bolts set.

As was mentioned earlier, go to Disk Utility and see if the camera appears there. If it does, then from the Finder choose "Go to Folder" from the Go menu. Enter "/Volumes" without the quote marks and press enter. This should open a window with the volumes that are connected to your Mac. One of the volumes should be your camera.

At this point you should be able to interact with the camera as if it were a regular disk drive.

With Canons it’s just not possible.

Use a USB Card Reader. You’ll get one for $10.

Other reasons to use a Card Reader:

Because it’s safer: Less risk of your images being lost if your camera shuts down during transfer.

Because it saves the battery on your camera

Because it saves wear and tear on your camera ports

Because it’s almost always faster.

Thanks so much for all the help and suggestions, can I throw another problem at you?!?!

I think I deleted Image Capture or portions of it when I was trying to clean up my computer - oops. Now I'm realizing that I want to access Image Capture in order to prevent the automatic launch of iphoto when I connect my camera. SO - does anyone know how to reinstall the Image Capture application?

I tried to reinstall the all the applications from my install CD that I received when I bought my computer, but it didn't seem to work - when I try to open my Image Capture application I still receive a message that states:

"You can not open the application Image Capture.app because it maybe damaged or incomplete"
