Application (Civ 4) won't launch

Hi, strangely (and frustratingly) Civ 4 suddenly won't launch for me; no error message, nothing, it just bounces a few times in the dock and stops. I've never had any problems before. I found a few similar threads here, and followed the advice there, but nothing seems to help. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program, I've verified that I have the latest software updates, and have repaired permissions (twice, once in safe mode). Not sure what else to do. I'm a relative mac newbie, so advice for dummies would be appreciated!

I have a MacBook Pro, running Mac OS X 10.4.11, 2.2 GHz Intel processor, with 4 GB of RAM and 35 GB of free memory. Never had any similar problems, this just popped up out of the blue, and only seems to affect this one application. Thanks for any help, David

Hi Everyone, and a warm welcome to the forums! 🙂

It's not the QT Update causing it, and it's not old PPC Hardware causing the problems.

I finally got the QT7.6 update, (Dial-up takes awhile), I installed it and Civ 4 runs as good as always on my old G4.

My advice to every one is to first get the Download for real here...

http://www.apple.com/downloads/

Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the sippnig radian is happening, so let it go... if it takes way to long, then you must find another way to repair your HDD first, like DiskWarrior).

Then Re-apply the Update & reboot.

Here's how I solved this problem.
I downloaded an older version of QT here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/QuickTime7_3_1_forTiger
Using Pacifist found here:
http://www.charlessoft.com/
I opened the QuickTime731_Tiger.pkg file and used Pacifist to install the older QT over the new one. All you have to do is select replace when asked about files that are already there.

Hope this helps.
