Fact is, just because most malware comes from dodgy sites does not logically lead one to conclude that ALL malware comes from dodgy sites (or pirated software). Sometimes the bad guys hack legitimate sites and host malware on them or attach malware to files and post them on legitimate sites. It may be more of a hazard for PC's but it is also a hazard for Macs and there is a greater likelihood of it getting worse rather than better in the future. Anyone crowing about how Macs are immune (or it is all the user's fault) is out of touch with reality. Actually, it is this naiveté that leads Mac users to be less than careful. It is a fact that malware is out there for the Mac. This time it may have been in pirated software, next time it may be in what looks like a legitimate "free" tool (which seems to be a concern of the original poster).

I am glad that you agree with me. I can't understand why people have to act so protective, and yes almost defensive when something is mentioned about a Mac.

No wonder some of the Windows users are not salivating once the found out that Macs are vulnerable.

Like you said, no all Malware are bundled with legit downloads. There a lot of crazy people out there. I am still trying to figure it out if I should be proactive and find some anti virus, anti malware coverage
