iPhone won't connect to UHP Bluetooth hands-free system in Vectra

Just bought an Apple iPhone and delighted with it. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to work with my Vauxhall Vectra UHP Bluetooth System installed in my car. I can get the iphone to pair up with the car, but it only connects momentarily before disconnecting. My previous handset (Blackberry 8120) worked a treat?
Can I download some sort of patch or driver to cure the problem? or am I just doing it wrong?
Advice greatly appreciated!

Same issue here with a new Astra from Opel in Belgium ...

I just went to the dealer to have the UHP updated to last version but no luck so far.

I also noticed that the UHP is not the problem. It's clearly the Iphone. How ? Well ... If you keep bluetooth settings open and keep watching the phone while "connecting" , you'll see the bluetooth icon dissapearing and the Iphone bluetooth briefly de-activates and re-activates itself.

No problems with Nokia based phones ...

Also, as long as I don't "do anything" with the Iphone, it stays connected. I can even "receive calls". The problem is when trying to make a call or when trying to access the address book. Then it crashes the Iphone BT instantly.

Call history is available without issues.

It's also clear that if you go on http://www.opel.com/mobileportal.pdf , you'll see the supported phone list and well ... Iphone is not on there 🙂

Hoping for this issue to be fixed is utopia I think 🙂 Let's just "hope" that OS 3.0 will help ...

Oh and I tried restore / reset / whatever. Pairing with UHP. Pairing with Iphone... No help

As crazy as it sounds, I've see a workaraound in a BMW forum that creating 2000 dummy phonebook entries (e.g. beginning with Z), makes it work. That ties in with the fact that whenever I look at the phonebook on the at it always shows as 'reading ...' - its never loaded yet.
Not tried it yet though - had enough trouble with contacts as it is!

Hi All,

I have experienced exactly the same issues on UHP, but in a Saab.
As most have found out : the connection stays stable as from V3.0 (or at least the new iPhone 3Gs.

I also experience the same issue with address book synchronisation. It say 'loading, please wait' ... forever.
I have 508 contacts ... I hope that is not the reason.
What also noted is that the 'last calls' sync well; in other words, I can see on the UHP the calling history.

Did anyone managed to get the phonebook sync working?

Kind regards
Luc

I have an Astra with UHP and my iPhone 3G connects fine. I can make/receive calls and get the recent calls list no problem but it doesn't seem to sync the phonebook. I get the same thing as described by other users - "Loading". I have a Nokia E71 as well though and that loads the phonebook almost immediately and there are more entries on that phone.

I am having what must be a related problem with connecting my iPhone 3GS to a factory integrated UHP Bluetooth handsfree system in my Saab (a 2007 9-3).

What happens is that the phone often drops the connection. It doesn't always, mind you - if I can get it to keep the connection for about a minute or so, it generally won't drop it after that.
It never connects automatically, though. I must always make the connection manually.

This isn't a fix by any means, but I have found that having the Bluetooth control panel open (Settings > General > Bluetooth ( not > UHP!)) when I tell the car to connect to the phone helps. Not always, but this seems to make the connection a bit more stable.

So, in order to use the iPhone through the handsfree...
_...I need to do the following:_
o Turn on the ignition
o Unlock the phone
o Enter the phone's Settings menu
o Enter the General settings menu
o Open the Bluetooth control panel
o Enter the car's Settings menu
o Enter the car's Phone settings menu
o Enter the Set Device dialogue
o Select the iPhone
o Tell the car to connect to the iPhone
o Wait to see if it keeps the connection
o If not, repeat from "Enter the Set Device dialogue"

_What I'd expect to do is the following:_
o Turn on the ignition.

It worked with my previous phone (Nokia N90), it must work with iPhone!

I have actually had no trouble syncing the phone book to the handsfree, or to have that part of the system work properly - the handasfree identifies the caller in the display, just as it should.
What I did to initialise the UHP phone book was to enter the phone book menu in the car. It then took a few minutes to sync down the information, but after that, that part at least has worked flawlessly.

A bit of additional info to my above post:

I notice that quite often, the phone in fact does connect automatically when I start the ignition on the car. However, this connection never lasts more than a few seconds at most.

After this, it for no apparent reason drops the connection and I have to go through the entire procedure above to regain it.
If I'm lucky, I only need to do it once.

*DOES APPLE NOT HAVE A SOLUTION TO THIS?*
==============================

Bearing in mind that the UHP system worked flawlessly with my previous Nokia N90, the conclusion that the problem lies with Apple's Bluetooth implementation, not with the UHP system, is obvious and inevitable. Perusing this forum, it becomes obvious that the iPhone platform does have similar problems with other bluetooth handsfree systems.

Thus Apple owns the problem, hence it seems to me Apple also owns the responsibility to solve it.

Bearing in mind how long this problem has been on the boards with no action however, I must question whether Apple is even aware of the problem (do they scan these forums for recurring issues?), and if they are, is solving our particular problem a prioritised issue?

Hi all,

Just thought i would share my experience with the iPhone/UHP combo problem.

I bought a brand new Astravan back in November and opted for the Bluetooth Kit to save on the 3 points from the bizzies.

Much to my confusion i have had a few problems trying to get my iphone to work with it, firstly i could not get the phonebook to sync with the UHP, then after i went onto the phonebook, the iPhone would disconnect from the UHP all by itself.

Feeling a little bit puzzled and bemused, i upgraded my iPhone's software in the hope of a simple fix.

Now the phonebook sync's ok and all is good... so i thought.

Unfortunately for me after a while the iPhone disconnects itself from the UHP and you have to go into the menu of the UHP and reconnect it. This is very annoying as you only realise its disconnected itself when the phone rings (unless you are watching the screen).

I noticed that the iPhone stays connected whenever the battery level is at or above 90%. All well and good but the bluetooth does hammer the battery life and if you are making calls its even worse.

Thus i keep my iPhone on charge whenever im in the car and touch wood its never spontaneously disconnected on me up to now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though.

Apple, is this some sort of fix in the software of the iPhone to automatically disconnect any connected bluetooth devices after the battery level falls below 90%? if so is there any way of removing or overriding this rule?

One more thing, if Vauxhall made a cradle adapter for the iPhone it would make it slightly easier as you could clip the phone into the holder as soon as you enter the vehicle instead of messing around with the cigar lighter charger.

Hope this helps.
