_Another tidbit of hopefully relevant info:_
For my "fix"in my post from 15 Dec to work, it is crucial for the phone to remain in the Bluetooth control panel!
This means not allowing the phone to go to sleep (meaning you need to poke the screen every several seconds), nor back out of the control panel, or press the "Home" button.
If you can keep it this way for about a minute or two, and if the phone does not drop the connection just for the sake of it during this time, chances are good that the connection will remain stable for the rest of the drive, whatever you subsequently do with the phone.
*However, if you leave the Bluetooth control panel during this period, or allow the phone to go to sleep, the connection
will break in a matter of seconds!*

Apple, is this some sort of fix in the software of the iPhone to automatically disconnect any connected bluetooth devices after the battery level falls below 90%?
I have doubts as to whether this is the whole truth of what is going on. I connect my phone to a charger every time I step into my car —
before starting the inevitable and laborious 12-step connecting process from my previous post — and often I do so straight from having had it in a charger indoors. I have not noticed a full charge eliminating the behaviour I have described in some detail in my posts above.
However, I have also noticed that sometimes it is more difficult to get my phone to establish a connection than at other times. I have not correlated this to the battery level, but I cannot dismiss the possibility of there being a connection.
