Wireless Mighty Mouse cursor not moving can anyone help?

hello

-received WMM today
-inserted batteries
-i installed it by using the Bluetooth pane of System Preferences

WMM works only partially i.e. it can scroll and click however the cursor doesn't move.. not at all! no matter ho much i move the mouse there is no reaction.

for a start i have a question:
when i inserted the batteries (battery level in system preferences is fully green), the green light did go on. however, no other light turned on. in the original Mighty Mouse the red light for optical tracking is turned on.. should one turn on in the Wireless as well? even if it is laser guided?

if the light not turning on isn't the problem can anyone else suggest another possible solution?

thank you

Never mind. It is obvious to me after reading through all the posts about random drops of connectivity, sudden non-tracking mice, intermittent tracking, and so on that Apple has a problem here. One that is likely very difficult to track down ( else they would have by now ). I have tried all the suggestions in this thread, and others to no avail. For the time being, I have switched back to my Logitech MX600 wireless (USB) mouse - it works great. I'll check back here once-in-a-while to see if the issue has been fixed. I like the MM, but I need a wireless so I'll stick with the ugly Logitech for now.

Today I woke to find my mightmouse not responding as well. Green lights, fully charged battery. I removed the mouse and set it up again. Nothing. clicks and scroll wheel work normally.

On a whim, I started changing mouse pads. 2 pads that previously worked still didnt work. the surface of my unibody macbook pro worked. Cursor moved like it should and was extremely responsive. back to the mouse pad, Nothing. Pad of paper, Nothing

hello

i've just set up my new macmini with 24-incher ('couldn't get my mind around "no-choice-glossy" but seems like i might not regret it') last night and experienced the same frustration > "allmighty" mouse not working - no cursor movement at ALL (the scrolling and clicking worked... quite useless though)

spent the day with resets, testing the mouse with other computers, changing position of the BT devices, trying to avoid other interferences, swapping the lithium batteries for alkaline ones, etc... no major breakthrough till now:

tried a glossy surface (regular mousepad with a slightly grainy surface wouldn't work) - using an office binder with a glossy "sheet-like-protector" on the top - and IT WORKS excellent!!!

i'm happy for now and it seems to be flawless... but i'd think that a mouse can take a variety of surfaces to work on... i have to say i tried the "mighty/picky mouse" at work with my macbookpro on a quite glossy-type desk surface and it worked too but not as smooth as with this more adherent type of the sheet on the binder (at that time it didn't "click" that it's the surface that makes the difference... thought it was a computer related issue)

good luck to everybody!

GLOSSY/SMOOTH - VERY SMOOTH (rather adherent/sticky-like) SURFACE - try it

I can add another arcane solution...

After trying everything above, including the most expensive batteries I could find, I was about to try the Psychic Friends Network when I thought I'd try running the mouse on a mirror on the assumption that maybe the laser was somehow not strong enough.

Not only did the mouse miraculously jump into life, but now it is working fine on my dirty desk again.

Good luck!

Rich.

I got a Wireless Mighty Mouse and I had the same problem from the start, all buttons work but no cursor movement, I was recently reading this thread and I was desperate so I put the mouse on the screen, aluminum iMac has the plastic plate over the screen, and it moved the cursor a little so it's not totally broken. I have yet to find any other surface that gets any movement.

Hi,

I've suffered the very same. Having one of the latest iMac for two months, and all of a sudden, the mouse was not moving cursor anymore although buttons were 100% functional.

I've tried out another mouse brand (Microsoft BT) and it worked alright, so the iMac BT was not the issue. I then tried the Mighty Mouse on another laptop (PC), and it worked!

BUT, when I've tried the laptop PC and the mighty mouse at my desk, it failed again.

My assumption is this: something breaks the laser beam one way or the other, and/or the detector, and/or the electronic for the "movement sensor parts". In turn, the mouse works only on some surfaces and not others, while without the problem, it used to work normally on all surfaces. In effect, while my mouse was broken, there was 1 small rectangular area on my desk where it was working fine, but only this small area. All other surfaces were not working.

I've returned to the Apple Store and asked for an exchange. I'm now back from the store, and I have a Mighty Mouse working again!

Hope this helps others.

Same problem here with my Mini. It doesn't move, then it does, then it doesn't....
All batteries I've used for it are non-rechargeable.

I've been reading discussion threads on this issue, this seems to be a wide spread problem, and not a new one as there are reports back from 2007 ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1056173&start=0&tstart=0)

Here is my own story:
Didn't worked out of the box, new batteries.
I've sent the mouse the Apple's representative lab here. There it worked, no problem ever found, and they were not aware of any problem with this kind of mice - interesting the forums show a different story.
They sent it back, and it worked here for a week.

Stopped again, I've removed the batteries for a while (sorry don't remember for how long), back it worked.

A week or so later, not moving again.

Tried removing the batteries for more than 20 min, tried deleting the bluetooth device and repairing, tried different surfaces. Different batteries.

Nothing brings the thing back to life.

Apple - HELP, you have a real problem.

Finally the local Apple's representative lab confirmed that the mouse was malfunctioning and replaced it with a new one. Works fine.

Here is my conclusion on the mouse problem.
And from the descriptions above in this discussion - it seems to be the problem for part of the mice out there.

My mouse worked only with a new very strong battery (Lithium type) once the battery weakens even a bit, the laser don't work anymore - therefore the cursor doesn't move but the buttons and bluetooth communication worked.
In my case this was not related with the surface being used.

The new mouse I received worked fine with very weak rechargeable batteries until they were empty - as expected. It also worked in very different surfaces, including reflective ones.

So if you have a similar problem. Ask the representative to check the mouse not with new fully charged batteries but with batteries that are half empty. This should prove that you have a problem.

Good luck.

Apple - please check this scenario with mice that was returned as faulty.

I'm having the same issue.

Wireless Mighty Mouse with the green light and invisible infrared sensor, never tracked. It clicks and scrolls after pairing, the battery indicator on the bluetooth preferences shows as full, yet, no tracking, no moving cursor.

Have tested this on a newish MBP and a couple of years old MB, same behaviour on both.

Its interesting that two other threads on this issue have been locked and archived by Apple, and that the issue seems to run all the way back to 2007.

Those two other threads:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=806228
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1056173&start=0&tstart=0

Have heard of some stange voodoo approaches to fixing this issue for some, but most of those approaches seemed to be for people with intermittent problems. For people who have had no tracking from the start I'm yet to see any solution.

A few people are saying they've had success returning product to their apple store, which is what we'll be doing in the weekend.

cheers, n

Dear Apple Support,

Where are you in this discussion thread?? If I wanted crappy support, then I would still be with Microsoft. Do you think that if you ignore the problem, then it will just go away?

I've had the same problem for well over two years now and the same discussion thread that I visited then is still going on today. And as ridiculous as it may sound, I decided to unplug my Logitech USB and dust off my "mighty" mouse to see if the problem was the laser by using the mouse on different surfaces. I set it on the disk cover for my new OS X Snow Leopard installation DVD, and what do you know - my mouse started to track again.

Now, this is a perfectly acceptable resolution to my problem as long as I am willing to hold the disk cover in place with one hand, while using the mouse with the other. However, I am not. SO, FIX THE PROBLEM AND SUPPORT YOUR CUSTOMERS BY AT LEAST RESPONDING TO THE ISSUE!

hello to everyone

i had first tried to install my wireless mighty mouse in january but faced with the very common no tracking problem and after having tried every possible solution i had given up. today, after updating to snow leopard i decided to give it another try and came back to this thread -which i had actually started about 7 months ago- hoping to find the answer to my problem..

i guess i was too optimistic. i can't deny that thanks to some of the above comments i've now been able to get some movement out of the cursor and that by placing it on an aluminum surface but it is far from perfect and very ridiculous to be working in such conditions.

i can't deny that joseph cash has a point in pointing out how apple support is strangely absent despite so many of us are experiencing the same problem.

i'll keep coming back in the hope that apple might one day wake up and at least pretend to address this issue

Wireless Mighty Mouse cursor not moving can anyone help?
