Tagging is not Facebook Tagging?

So it had been widely reported that if a photo had faces tagged then these tags would also be uploaded to Facebook.

This only appears to be half true - while the tags ARE uploaded and listed, they are not proper facebook tags. They do not link to the profile of the person, nor does the person receive any "you were tagged" notification.

Maybe this is something that'll be fixed later, but as it is I feel a little mislead 😟

This is so annoying!

The face recognition is really powerful - why has apple implemented it so poorly with facebook?

As far as I'm concerned, the face recognition is useless without the capability of it actually linking with facebook profiles.

I'm gonna send apple some iPhoto feedback right now. I suggest everyone else does as well so we can sort this out.

I'm even tempted to go back to use the original "iPhoto exporter for facebook" which I've used without fault.

It'd even be possible for iPhoto to show me a list of my Facebook friend and let me link them to faces.

My thoughts exactly. It would have been very quick and simple for apple to implement a feature whereby, the first time you name a face in iPhoto, you are provided with a list of your facebook friends (the old Facebook Exporter for iPhoto managed it when tagging!)

That way you wouldnt have to find their facebook main email address and add it! In fact, even asking us for our friends fbook ID (the bit after ?id= in the URL of their profile) would be less hassle than email address......

Just provide us with our friend list so we can make a solid link between iphoto+fbook friends. and apple address book too for people who use this.

Now to find a way to build this myself as an iphoto plugin... / hack......

I found a way to get friends whose (Facebook) emails I don't have working.

Upload an untagged picture to Facebook.
In Facebook, tag your friends (see earlier comments about integration with your Facebook friends list).
Then when it syncs back to iPhoto use that 'Facebook tag' as the starting point for building the rest of the tags using the face recognition.
The cork board still doesn't have an email address for that person, but when I now upload the tag, Facebook recognizes it as one of my friends.

This does not work for me. When I tag a person on Facebook, the person in not placed on the faces cork board. The tagging is hit and miss for me. Even when I only want to upload a few pictures from an album the upload is sometimes unsuccessful and there is no link to indicated it. I try syncing numerous times. Nothing. Facebook simply does not get these pics. I am hoping for an update soon...

what i did was:
1) import my photos into iphoto
2) go through all the photos, if iphoto didn't put a box around some of the faces, i use the add missing faces button to add a box around each of the faces i want to tag... but make sure you don't assign any names to it
3) export the photos into facebook
4) tag those people on facebook
5) sync your local album with facebook again
6) go through each of the photos and you should see all the new names from facebook showing up
7) for people you have added using this method, you can tag them in iphoto next time before uploading them to facebook.

Interesting supposed work-around. I'm going to guess, based on what I've seen myself and heard from others, that this will work sometimes and fail other times.

What I do NOT accept is the idea that I have to wipe out every face I've tagged already in iPhoto in order to start over and tag from Facebook. That's not how Apple advertised this feature.

This Facebook integration feature was one of the main reasons I upgraded (along with Places). The fact that it works so horribly is infuriating. That is especially true after I spent a lot of time tagging Faces in iPhoto and now find out that it is almost impossible to get it to sync to Facebook properly. What is bizarre is that the old Facebook Exporter for iPhoto seemed to know who my friends were, allowed me to pick from a list of them that auto-completed as I typed, and then properly linked to them upon upload to Facebook. Guess how many possibly-unknown email addresses I had to put in? That's right, NONE!

Apple royally screwed up this feature, then made us think they had it working. I'm hoping an update in the future will finally give me what I already paid for. Currently, it is unusable.

You do not have to re-tag every face, all you need to do:

1. Go to the Faces page
2. Click the info button ("i" with circle around it) that appears next to their name in the "snapshot" when you mouse over it;
3. Enter their Facebook e-mail in the email field.

Now all of their pics will tag correctly when synced to FB.

If you do not know their FB email address:

1. Drag an FB-tagged pic into your library from a synced FB album;
2. Go to your Faces page and they will now show up as a different "snapshot" on your Faces page;
3. Click the info button next to their name and you will see their FB email address.

Now you can either add the email address to their other "snapshot" by following the steps above or you can merge the two, dragging the other snapshot into the snapshot created with the FB pic.

This worked for me perfectly!
