Battery Drain after Update 2.2.1

Good Day All,

I Love my iPhone 3G but use it conservatively. I've installed the BatteryLog App and have gone an entire week on one charge. Two nights ago, I installed the 2.2.1 update and fully charged the phone overnight. When I went to bed last night I still had 80% power. This morning when I got up and went to use my phone, I had the red low battery screen. I've never experienced this type of performance from my iPhone ever.

Please note: I'm a retired U.S. Navy Submarine Radioman who paid attention when learning about the proper care and feeding of submarine batteries. This is one of the reasons why I love the BatteryLog App. It reminds me of my Submarine days taking and reading the logs.

Anyone else experiencing degraded battery performance after installing update 2.2.1?

iPhone, Windows XP

Hi there,

I have noticed a degradation of battery life since the 2.2.1 update.

My phone was on around 80% last night, this morning it was off due to the battery being dead. I nearly missed getting up in time for work.

I charged the battery to full at the office today, and now, about 4-5 hours later it's on 45%.

I think we need another update, and soon!

My 2.2 works really well so I have not updated to 2.2.1 yet - waiting to see how things shake out.

That being said, I would perform an iPhone reset (p. 35 of the manual) followed by fully discharging and fully recharging the battery to reset the meter. Apple recommends this discharge/recharge about once per month to "keep the electrons moving"... http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html

Same problem began for me after installing the software update 2.2.1.

I did the reset as well as letting it run all the way down and charging it back to 100%. But the problem persists. I charged it overnight and the charge level looked fine until mid-afternoon when it drops to the red "low battery" level.

It really seems like the update is the culprit since I didn't have this problem before the update - and my usage hasn't changed.

Any other ideas?

Hello,

Just experienced this myself and the other issue is that the iPhone gets very hot like it is in a runaway cycle system. I had this issue with my first iPhone and they replaced it on the spot in an Apple store. Have just done a restore and now doing a Reset to see what happens.

Might have to let it run down, do a reset, fully charge then if that doesn't work then off back to the Genius Bar again.

Agree with the above posters that 2.2.1 has had a deleterious effect. Will check temps and processor speed with iStat when its back to happy.

Cheers HyperbaricDoc
