Need Help! Trying to Install AOL Desktop on my new Macbook Pro

I just received my new Macbook Pro and have transferred all of my data, from my Powerbook G4, to the new Macbook Pro. One big problem that I am having now is that I cannot get my "AOL Desktop" software to start on my new Macbook Pro. I have tried to delete the software (the AOL Desktop icon itself) and re-install several time, but every time I try to launch AOL Desktop, the cursor just sits there and spins it's little "rainbow" ball. I do have internet connection since I can access via Safari and my wireless network. Any suggestions? This is really getting frustrating... and I can't seem to find any answers in AOL's website (now that they have downsized to the point that a user can't go to them directly with questions. ARRGG!!). I would appreciate an insight to a solution to my problem. Thanks for your consideration.

PS> Please feel free to drop a note to my e-mail, at STKMAC@AOL.COM, with any solutions. (fortunately I can still access my e-mail via the web). Thanks again!

Hello Again Stephen!

Were you able to use My Procedure Here at all?

If you are just using the Email function, you can also still use the "Classic" version AOL For Mac OS X which can be Downloaded Here.
"(Note: for a "classic" version of AOL Software, you can still download AOL® for Mac OS X for free.)"

"... (does anyone know how an AOL user is support to contact AOL now?)."
Try These:

AOL® Desktop for Mac® Help

AOL Answer Wizard

Portal To AOL Live Help.

I used AOL years ago when it was popular... and since it was my primary email back then, I have kept it active. You can get AOL mail through any POP3 compatible email client (which I would imagine is just about any of them). A quick search will show you how to set up most clients. Here is the info from AOL on setting up Mail. I don't use Mail and I don't know how old the posting is so Mail may have been updated since it was posted... but the basics should be the same:

Just so you know, You are not alone here. I performed the same kind of migration from my G4 TiBook to my new 17 inch pro unibody (fully loaded)and AOL Desktop will not load (just bounces). Fortunately AOL Classic migrated perfectly. I will be interested if we can find a solution. By the way, I have the same problem with the AIM migration - that software will not open either. Oh well, that's AOL for ya!

I want to update my post above. I actually went ahead and re-installed OSX and performed another Migration. I migrated my regular account but left the main administrator account not migrated. And guess what - when I login to my regular account which also has admin rights, AOL Desktop for Mac will not work just like before (both it and AIM 1.1 bounce but refuse to open); HOWEVER if I log into the top admin account, everything works! Regular AOL, Desktop AOL and all versions of AIM. So I guess I can always use fast user switching to switch from the account where AOL Desktop does not work over to the account where it does. Not elegant but hey it works. That also proves that the Migrated account still has a buried conflict somewhere which I still hope will get a solution eventually.

Well, after several weeks of trying to find a solution to my AOL Desktop issue (on my new Macbook Pro). I have finally re-installed OS X 10.5 from my installation disks (that came with the Macbook Pro). After the new "clean" install of OS 10.5 and installing the AOL Desktop 1.5, everything seems to be working fine now. Although, now I have the issue of making sure all of my previously installed programs work, but that's another project. LOL!
Thanks RAYZN for all of your input and suggestions. I do appreciate all of the consideration and efforts.
