Up until yesterday my iPhone (Canada carrier = FIDO) was working perfectly. Now every time I try to sync it iTunes crashes. I have not changed anything - same computer same settins. The last app I updated was Air Sharing. A restore using the back-up option did not work and neither did a full restore without a back-up. I have completely reset and entered in all of my settings for networks, email etc. It is still not working.
FYI:
- did full restore on iPhone = no fix
- performed extensive sys maintenance (permissions, disk repair, etc)= no fix
- deleted all iTunes stuff (app, prefs, etc) downloaded & reinstalled iTunes 8 = no fix
- installed fresh operating system (OSX 10.5.6) = no fix
- manually removed ALL apps from iTunes->Mobile Applications; re-downloaded and installed one app (Apple Remote), gradually added apps back in one at a time = Problem Solved
Now, new problem: every time I sync, I see the message "The information on the iPhone is synced with another user account. Do you want to sync this iPhone with the information from this user account instead?" How do I make this message go away?
I've heard the theory that this MIGHT be related to the iLife Media Browser update that came out recently (which I installed on my MBP). Are the other people experiencing this problem also running the iLife Media Browser update?
I got mine to work again with a tip on another forum...
Deauthorize your iTunes account and then re-authorize it (under Store menu). I actually quit & re-launched iTunes between those steps though don't know if it's necessary.
To anyone else who has dealt with the ridiculousness of the "syncing apps crashes iTunes" issue, I was able to fix my machine by deauthorizing my computer from the App Store and then reauthorizing.
Thanks so much to the gent who suggested this in another topic in these forums. I have been trying to fix this problem for over 24 hours now. It'll still take me another 2 hours to redownload all apps and install them again. Sigh. Apple has seriously failed me these past two days. And if this problem was caused by the 2.2.1 iPhone software version, someone needs to be slapped.
Confirmed for me... After doing restores, deletes and everything else I could think of to isolate the problem including a failed attempt to downgrade to 2.2....
The deauthorize and reauthorize did the trick...
This was very time consuming.. Very dissapointed in Apple this time around and this is from someone who is a big apple fan... 😟
Well I am happy to say that deauthorizing and authorizing my computer in iTunes did the trick for my sync issue. Thanks everyone for your input and advice!
I was having the exact same problem as all the posters: itunes could not complete a sync to my iPhone before unexpectedly quitting, but i saw a suggestion on another site that has FIXED THIS PROBLEM:
1. Open itunes with the phone NOT plugged in to computer
2. Deauthorize itunes on that computer
3. Reauthorize itunes on that computer
4. Plug iphone back in and sync.
UNBELIEVABLE that it was that simple to fix after so much screaming and yelling and trying everything I could possibly think of.
I doubt that this will work for everybody, but hopefully it will work for some of you.
Such a simple fix for a problem that I spent a good day fighting with a tried more ideas to fix it than I am inclined to admit... Like you, I was upset and frustrated and I might have even screamed once or twice. 🙂
Thank you everybody! I was having this exact same problem! De-authorizing and reauthorizing itunes fixed the problem! I spent hours restoring my iphone and deleting recently installed apps before I found this thread. I was about to reinstall the system on my desktop! Thank you again!!!!!
