Some apps - 3rd party - I want to get rid of. But since they disappeared from the Apple Store or are only available against cash, I can't delete them anymore! The little cross on the left upper corner does not appear. Additionally they don't appear in the sync list on itunes! Any suggestions beside restoring? Thx. Gerry
I don't have an iPhone 3G, but I'm having the same problems those describe above. Any attempt of syncing any number of apps (single app or otherwise) results in a hard crash of iTunes.
I've done a complete restore of my iPhone and was still seeing the crashing (at the point where iTunes was trying to install apps). I went to the Applications tab of iTunes after selecting my iPhone in the left window and told it NOT to sync apps. I then hit Apply and iTunes crashed while attempting to make the settings change.
So I plugged my iPhone in again and fortunately the "don't sync Apps" setting stuck. I hit sync, and it's now installing all my music, videos, and what not from my previous back and subsequent restore. If this sync works without any problem I am then going to try what several have suggested in this post: to delete ALL apps from iTunes (all apps are already deleted from my iPhone) and attempt to redownload one and try to install it. If one works I'll go with two and so on.
Ok, so I was able to get /everything/ back on my iPhone EXCEPT for apps. I did what was suggested, and deleted all apps from iTunes (they were already deleted from my iPhone). I then downloaded the AIM app all over again from the app store and installed it. After it installed iTunes crashed.
So, it looks like I'm one of the few here who have not been able to get things working by doing the individual downloads of apps all over again.
I'm not sure what to do at this point. It hardly makes sense to download each app and have iTunes crash over and over. It'd take me over 25 iTunes crashes to get all my apps installed.
To anyone else who has dealt with the ridiculousness of the "syncing apps crashes iTunes" issue, I was able to fix my machine by deauthorizing my computer from the App Store and then reauthorizing.
Thanks so much to the gent who suggested this in another topic on these forums. I have been trying to fix this problem for over 24 hours now. It'll still take me another 2 hours to redownload all apps and install them again. Sigh. Apple has seriously failed me these past two days. And if this problem was caused by the 2.2.1 iPhone software version, someone needs to be slapped.
Thanks for answering. But I posted, that the crosses are not appearing on the top left, even if they appear on all other apps after wiggling! Nobody out there who knows a solution?
Thanks. Gerry Mauritius

My response to your first post was thinking that you were unable to see the delete x on the icon since you did not mention in that post that the icons were moving.
Sorry for the confusion.
