Mail: Save a complete message as RTF or RTFD

Hello,

Mail offers the functionality to save a message as RTF or RTFD (when attachments are present). Is it possible to access this via AppleScript?

I succeeded in saving the "content of message" as a text file, as well as saving attachments, but got stuck in the problem to save all as one RTF/RTFD file, exactly in the way the menu function "Save as..." does.

I hope that someone can help me. Thanks in advance!

So I assume that there's no way to save Mail messages as RTF(D) with attachments integrated into the document? Any help still appreciated...

I don't know about what you are trying to do but if it is in the menu bar and it is hard to 'script' it then you could use Applescript to select whatever message you want and then use System Events to access the menu bar item.

I've never done UI scripting, but I guess it would be a possible workaround. In my script, the user can select multiple messages which are then saved (so far as text only) and the file's date is set to the receipt date of the according message. - I might try to open the message window one by one, then "click" on the "save as..." menu item and close the window. But how would I obtain the name and path of the file to set its date?

Well, I don't want to save text and attachments as separate files but the whole message as it's shown in the message viewer window. This is nicely done by the "save as..." command, I don't really know why it's not accessible via AS.

I mean that if you want to change some date or something then File Save As and then change the date of that one file (by change the date I don't know if you mean the modified/created date or if you mean some text in it but both can be done by Applescript).

I can invoke the "save as..." by GUI scripting, but then I need to know which file's date to change. The user may have chosen any folder and filename to save to, so how can I locate the file to change its date with AS?

Well to do the Save As you will need to UI script in the part where you choose a location anyway (that will take a little experimenting to get right but you will be able to) so thats what it is so you can choose that now in make everything fit around that.

Now I'm getting iMad Richard! I fill in the whole Saveas-dialog window by UI scripting! So first I need an AS-choose-filename dialog to catch the user's input, then use this to fill in the fields of the Saveas...

So I just need to find out how to do this UI scripting, but I'll manage that.

Thanks for that. Still, I leave this thread unanswered, because maybe maybe there's a direct AS way (or Apple might feel encouraged...).

Lol that is why they give you the ability to give a "helped" star (hint hint). I know what you said but here is the UI scripting page which has a section about accessing a menu item half way down:
