Microsoft Office SP1 - 12.1.0

I have been prompted to get updates for my MS Office suite on my Macbook, and as I proceed through the install process, when I am at the stage of selecting the Disk Destination I am told:-

"You cannot install Office 2008 SP1 Update (12.1.0) on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume."

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Hi and welcome to Discussions,

here are Microsofts hints for update 'trouble':

Make sure that the Microsoft Office 2008 folder is located in the Applications folder on the startup volume. If it is at another location on your computer, move it to the Applications folder on your startup volume, and then try installing the update again.

Restart your computer and try installing the update again.

Make sure that the user account you use to authenticate the update installer is an administrator account. For more information about administrator accounts, see Mac Help.

Make sure that you downloaded the correct language version of the update for your copy of Office.

If you rename or modify any of the files in the Microsoft Office 2008 folder, you cannot install product updates. To correct this issue, drag the Microsoft Office 2008 folder to the Trash, and then reinstall Office 2008 from your original installation disk.

Quit any applications that are running, including all Office applications, Microsoft Messenger, and Office Notifications, because they might interfere with installation.

Maybe it helps

Thanks for your help. Still not getting any joy. Getting exactly the same message when I try to select the Macintosh hard drive.

Yes - I have checked that the MS Office Folder is in Applications Folder on the Start Up Volume.

If I restart my Computer were do i find the SP?

Yes - I am using an administrator Account to install the SP

Yes - I have not renamed any files in the folder to the best of my knowledge.

I am hesitant to delete my MS Office Folder, as I do not want to lose my Entourage Email and Contact details. Can I do this safely?

And finally,

Yes - I did quite all my applications before I ran the SP Installation.

Have you any other suggestions?

Hi switch to mac,

when you have downloaded the SP1 it should be in the Downloads Folder.
Use the icon directly to the left of the Trashcan in your dock to verify it's there.

As I don't use Office for Mac myself, I don't have any more clues.
Maybe here http://www.microsoft.com/mac/help.mspx and here http://www.officeformac.com/productforums/ you get more help.
