DVD Studio Pro 3 Compatible With Mac OS X 10.5.6 Leopard?

Hello,

There seems to be some confusion about compatibility with Leopard and older versions of Final Cut Pro HD and DVD Studio Pro 3 in the various places I've looked around at on the Internet so I thought I would post the question here.

I have a brand new 24-inch iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and would like to install Final Cut Pro HD (version 4.5) and DVD Studio Pro 3 but I don't want to take a chance at ruining anything.

Will these apps work under Mac OS X 10.5.6 Leopard?

The compatibility issue isn't with Leopard but between your Intel (Core 2 Duo) hardware and PowerPC software (Final Cut Pro HD & DVD Studio Pro 3). Your software won't run on Intel machines.

You'll need the upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2 - the $699 (MSRP) upgrade from Final Cut Pro, specifically.

Hold on - I was using FCS v1 under 10.5.5 on a Macbook pro Intel core 2 duo machine right up until a week or ten days ago. I then upgraded to 10.5.6 and had to finally upgrade to FCS 2... no real hardship as it was there waiting for me to get my act together anyway!

You definitely can run FCS1 on Intel, but not with 10.5.6

Final Cut Studio version 1 as in FCP 5.0.x and DVDSP 4.0.x? Really? 5.1 and 4.1 work, sure, but I wasn't aware of any legitimate places to purchase them...

Not sure how this relates to FCP 4.5 and DVDSP 3 though...

Well, interestingly - when I copied everything over from my iMac G5 (using the Migration Assistant via FireWire) to the new iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, SoundTrack 1.2 copied over (I didn't have Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 or DVD Studio Pro 3 installed on the iMac G5 yet) and SoundTrack 1.2 works fine under Mac OS X 10.5.6 Leopard on this new Mac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

If SoundTrack 1.2 works fine, why wouldn't Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 or DVD Studio Pro 3 work?

heh... reading too fast I overlooked the spec being touted. I don't think DVDSP 3 will work at all, sorry.

But yes, FCP v5 and DVDSP 4.0.2 were running on this very laptop just ten days ago. I updated to 10.5.6 and it all came to a halt, forcing me to apply the FCS 2 discs that have been sitting neatly in a box on the shelf above me for ages now.

I still have the old configuration in Time Machine - and have been building DVD projects using the older software as recently as last week.

Unless I am missing some other detail, of course 🙂

Even Logic Express 7.1 works too, by the way on my iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running Mac OS X 10.5.6 Leopard.
