Serato Scratch Live & Unibody MBP do not work with 4GB ram

Many people including myself are having problems with our new Macbook Pros and Serato Scratch Live. Models with 4gb of ram cannot play music on the usb device (or turntables) without distortion. The noise is to a point where Serato is unusable. When users pulled out a 2gb stick or ram, they report that the application and usb box work perfectly.

Rane is doing its best to work on the issue but the help of apple is needed. Thanks.

Yes, same problem here. Unibody MPB with 4gigs of ram and 10.5.6

Looks like if start SL after your computer been running for a while and has first 2 gigs of ram filled up with running apps, you will get crazy distorted sound.

So far the only workaround to this that i found is a good-ol' windows reboot.
If you start SL right after the reboot, it works fine. But if you use SL more than once a day, like i do, it gets VERY annoying. Sometimes i end up rebooting my laptop 3-4-5 times a day!!!

Please, Apple, fix this issue.

Has there been any news on fixing this issue. This is a serious problem for those of us who use serato and have 4 gig RAM. According to reports, those macbook/macbook pro's that have 2 gig RAM have no issues of sound distortion indicating that the issue is specific to machines that have 4 gig RAM. Having to take out 2 gig everytime you dj is not acceptable for a computer of this price/specs. Please if you are in the same position post your concern so that Apple get a move on and fix this issue wih the 4 gig RAM.

Just confirming that this bug does affect the 17-inch unibody model. Haven't had the time/motivation to see if removing one of the factory-installed RAM sticks makes any difference (and my intuition tells me that the less cycling of those 10 little screws on the bottom of the 17-inch unibody, the better). In any case, I travel with the computer off and have fortunately not had the issue crop up at any DJ gigs.

At least on my computer, RAM usage alone doesn't seem to be the issue. I tested Scratch Live and its Video-SL option, running along with two browsers both playing videos and a bunch of other apps running (filling up all available RAM). No distortion in that case.

But after leaving the computer on for a couple days, and through five or six sleep/wake cycles, launching and playing audio in Serato Scratch Live resulted in the immediate manifestation of the distortion problem. Problem gone again after a reboot.

I just got my macbook this week and tried to use serato... same problem I have the macbook pro with 4gb of ram... I get a lot of distortion checked the wires and everything... Searching google got me to all sorts of forums talking about this problem. I hope apple realizes this is a serious issue and acts quickly... this is my third macbook pro. The first one I bought had a really loose hinge for the lcd and the second one crashed on me after two weeks. This is my third macbook now that I finally got fed up of buying from the store and bought online with added upgrades... 7200 rpm drive and 4 gb of ram and now it wont even run serato... this is sweet considering i bought the **** thing for this purpose alone... FML... or should i say F OUR LIVES apple probably wont come out with anything anytime soon.

I tried with 2GB of RAM and 4GB.. I get clicks, pop's and audio dropouts either way. Mac and PC. I have also a Audio8 Dj Traktor Box, and get the same results. I tried also the reboot with the device plugged in, on the windows side, i need to put the Latency to MAX Settings and that only makes half the drop out disapears.

I really hope Apple figures out the issue, paying 2 gran for a laptop that barely works and not stable isnt a very good deal.
