Ipod 20gb color won't turn off

Apple read this,
My ipod won't turn off. I've seen another post about this, but it didn't answer my question. I understand that your supposed to hold the play/pause button for a few seconds to turn it off, but it wont turn off. I've reset all settings twice. Is my ipod defective? If not then could you please help me!

Have you tried hooking it up to the AC adapter? Not the USB or any other adapter. Try the AC adapter specifically. See if you get the Apple logo. If not, then try a Reset there. Lay the iPod on a flat surface, and press the center button and Menu button for about 10 seconds - but don't press really hard. The combination of AC adapter plus Reset should fix it.

I think there's a known issue with the Photos/most recent iPods turning off (maybe we can narrow it down to a specific model). The problem seems to be related to certain funtions, i.e. mine won't turn off for a full minute after being in disk mode, or if looking at photos, or if reading large notes, etc. It turns off fine (usually) after listening to music.

Lots of users seem to be having similar problems.

For what it's worth:
My iPod Photo (60G, purchased June 2005) wouldn't turn off either. I nearly always play the iPod docked to a Bose SoundDock external speaker. Yesterday, I lifted it off the speaker dock without turning it off first to take it on a trip. Discovered it wouldn't turn off by holding down pause/play, even for a full minute. No choice but to let it drain until the next day. Back home, I placed it in the dock, let it charge for about 15 minutes, turned it on (it turned on OK), turned it off *while still docked* (it turned off OK), took it out of the dock, turned it on out of the dock (OK), turned it off out of the dock (OK).
Not sure what, if anything, this means.

Judith,

What were you listening to on the ipod just before you took it out and it wouldn't work? Lots of users have experienced your problem if they were listening to an audiobook or doing a slide show just before trying to turn it off.

Usually, if you play a normal song, it will turn off after that.

Also, as a tip: if you really can't get it to turn off, hold the menu button and the center button (select) at the same time for a few seconds and the ipod will reboot. This always works.
