Airport Extreme Website block..

OK, I've got one for somebody smarter than me out there ( a lot i'm sure).
I have an airport extreme (n) and there is one particular website that I cannot access through the extreme, but if I pull the airport out and hook up directly to the cable modem I can get to this website. What gives? I get a warning like this:
Access Denied

You don't have permission to access "http://www.choicehotels.com/?" on this server.
Reference #18.72b1208.1234794491.13f1c1a

I went through earthlink and we determined it has to do with the airport..

Oh, the website is www.choicehotels.com

I have been able to access this up until about 3 weeks ago..

any helpful ideas?

Thanks

Tezgno is spot on with this. In my case, the blocking was caused by several incorrect IMAP password attempts in 3 minutes - this was the second time I had this issue. Probably because I got a new phone and kept screwing up the password. Before that the issue was probably related to multiple requests while updating my site which is HTML 5 heavy. My ISP admin found the block after I pointed him to this article. Unfortunately I don't have access to WHM so he has to fix this issue.

If you are running IMAP, this could be an issue. I have a top tier tech contact at Apple and I'm going to contact him and insist that they, at the very least add this issue to the Kb but they should really implement QoS in their AEBS.

Thank you Tezgno. I read every F*CKING reply to this thread and yours was the only of any value. What I found most frustrating in reading through this problem was every posters pointless need to explain their exact identical situation OVER AND OVER again. What's wrong with just saying "SAME" and offering only valuable input?

THANK YOU TEZGNO!!

After struggling for several weeks with the problem of not being able to access a lunarpages website I maintain through my home wireless network set up, I searched the internet for similar problems but did not find a solution. So I first spoke with tech support at my internet provider and then spent 3 hours with 2 techs from the router company. A solution was not found. I even bought a new router (Airport Extreme) thinking perhaps that was the problem because I could connect going into the ethernet port from the modem, but not when using my wireless network which was going through a Belkin router. About a week ago I discovered this thread and started reading. There on page 7 was the explanation and advice from Tezgno, and it turned out the problem was indeed that my ip address was being blocked and had been so for about a month now.

The reason it was being blocked has to do with the fact that I had unknowingly bookmarked the CPanel log out web address so every time I tried to log in I would, of course, start on the log out address page and as soon as I entered the username and pw, I would be directed back to the CPanel and then I would re enter the username and pw again. In I would go on the second attempt. This went on for a long time before I had an issue accessing the CPanel and the site I maintain. I have the proper CPanel web address bookmarked now so that I don't repeat the same mistake. Apparently my attempts to log in from the log out page accumulated to the point that the server sensed an unwanted person trying to access the page, so it blocked my ip. At any rate, I called support at lunarpages and explained what was happening. The support person checked and sure enough there was a block so he removed it and put my address on a safe list. So now I can access the CPanel to maintain the site and I can access the site itself when not doing any work on the web pages. Prior to removing the block I could not access either the website nor could I access the CPanel without going directly from my modem to the computer ethernet port. MYSTERY SOLVED!

Here's a tip of the hat to Tezgno and his concise explanation and advice! THANK YOU!

Pete

Dear Tezgno,

Thank you so much for posting about this problem. This was exactly what happened to me: not understanding what was getting on. My webhoster could not help me. Although I gave a good description of my problem, they did not understand what to to until I mentioned that they were blocking my IP-address! After my explanation, based on your post, they could put me on their whitelist and all is working fine now.

The nice thing about this all is, that I now have the newest Airport Time Capsule and a somewhat older Airport Extreme as a spare one. And yes, the IP of the old Airport is also on the whitelist of my website hoster, just in case!

I'll add my experience to this loooong thread and thank Tezgno also. Long story short my Dad got and new iMac and tried to setup his mail with imap and suddenly our IP was blocked (automatically) by CSF which our host uses. Apparently apple mail tries to access IMAP servers using port 585 when first setting up mail. The correct port is 587. I posted a support ticket after midnight last Friday and had an answer and was unblocked before 5 the next morning. This was after calling my Dad's ISP and swearing they were blocking our IP and then taking the AE out of the loop and realized I could access the site. Then I called Apple swearing up and down the AE was blocking are site and then finally found this thread... Here's the email from my (great) hosting company:

----------

It's something internal to their mail app, we're guessing, because it doesn't show up anywhere. But sure, feel free to post up and tell people asking their host to add port 585 to the inbound TCP list in CSF (and restarting CSF) will take care of what is an otherwise recurring problem. Since nothing runs on that port and thus won't answer, the mail client then seems to move along to one of the other supported ports to do its thing.

Tezgno - thanks for this detailed post. This is exactly what was occurring with me today out of the blue and the ISP is unblocking my IP address now. I know your original post is dated at this point, do you know if the newer Air Port routers do a better job of handling QoS or is it best to look at other options (Linksys) to avoid/minimize this problem in the future.

I'm having a problem very similar to what everyone else describes. All of a sudden I could not access my own website via either http or ftp. I don't get any error messages, the page just won't load. But the biggest problem: It doesn't work if I'm using ethernet cable either. This is probably because I have always used both cable and Wi-Fi at the same time. The problem occured after I started using GoodSync (an automatic ftp sync client).

The only way I can access the website is by using my iPhone's cellular data. I have tried using the control panel on my hosting service, and allowing every IP I could find (public, private, router's IP etc.) but I still don't have access.

I've also tried using Hola VPN, this way it kinda works, takes about 40 seconds to load the website though and there is at least a couple resources that doesn't load.

It's worth mentioning that I can still access my other websites hosted with the same hosting company.

I would be very happy if someone had just a temporary solution, because right now, I'm completely stuck.

I have the exact same problem. Just started this weekend.

GoDaddy says its not their deal, Brighthouse says its not their deal. I read some earlier 2009 posts in this thread, but whatever's been updated in the Airport Utility 7 years later is no longer there (or I have no access to it).

I have no Cpanel access to my site through GoDaddy, so I know this is not an issue for me.
