iphone bmw bluetooth incompatability

My 2g iphone worked flawlessly with my 2008 bmw 328i with iDrive and bluetooth. It's difficult to understand why my 3g won't work, and that no fix is yet in place. Most disconcerting, as I'm a physician who must take calls on the road a lot. Does anyone know if the renown Apple geniuses will soon issue a remedy? Thanks,

ShylohR,

This article here provides some good general setup advice: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1664

For troubleshooting, I would recommend ensuring the firmware for both the car kit and the iPhone are up to date. To make sure the iPhone is up to date, see this article here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

Beyond that, have you tried contacting the manufacturer of the car kit for compatibility information and/or troubleshooting steps they'd recommend? In general, it would be the manufacturer of the car kit that would determine what bluetooth phones/devices are expected to work as marketed.

Hope this helps,

Raleigh

Mine wont connect either...My Gen 2 was pefect and now my 3g wont connect to my 08 car.

Maybe someone can help me with the process?

I turn on bluetooth on my iphone (3g)
I turn on my cars and Pair new phone.
I select the car in my iphone's menu when it appears.
I I then enter a code in my iphone 1234
I then key in 1234 in my bmw. The bmw says its connecting but my Iphone is saying "The passcode you entered is incorrect"

This is driving me mad!!

iPhone 3G suffers from reduced bluetooth capabilities, resulting in the issues we are all facing: Works fine with some headsets/car kits, partly with others, or does not work at all with a few, Sound quality beeing below average when over bluetooth, Inability to support A2DP and so on...

All we can do is hope for Apple to fix these issues in the next major software update.

Mine works fine with my 2007 BMW X5 idrive.

Note I do NOT use it with the special cradle; I think those charge and there are issues with the 3G not charging with older adapters. But it works just fine with bluetooth.

I know that might not help you directly, but don't be so quick to assume it is a global incompatibility. It may just be something specific to your setup, car, the buttons you are hitting, etc.

At the risk of repeating what others have said ... I have a BMW 3 Series Coupe, built April 2007.

I had no problems pairing and synching the phonebook on my 2G iPhone and later the 3G iPhone and having full functionality through the controls on the steering wheel and on the Pro audio system controls.

The only issue I had was when the pairing between the 2G iPhone and the car kept dropping. It turned out to be a line in one of the contact address field that seemed to "corrupt" the flow of data between the iPhone and the car.

Once I'd worked that out through a process of elimination, the problem disappeared and the pairing worked normally.

I have a 2009 BMW 329i which worked beautifully with my iPhone 3G UNTIL 3 weeks ago. I have version 2.2.1 (5H11) software on the phone. Yet, I work with someone who has same version of software on a 2008 335i, and his phone works in car.

I see all my phone numbers on the screen of the BMW, but I cannot get calls or make calls. I am disconnected.

Does anyone know about this problem? Is it my iphone, the car, or the software version which is "not" on the approved list according to the BMW website. Any ideas???

I have iPhone 2.2.1(5H11) and I am able to pair it to my 2006 530xi. I have no problems at all with connection or Audio drop outs if my address book is empty, when I sync my address book via iTunes or from Microsoft Exchange on the iPhone. I start getting Audio drop outs and it seem that it keeps reconnecting BT iPhone.

Does anyone have this issue?
If your iPhone is connection to your BMW okay what is your iPhone OS version?

BMW acknowledge this issue with iPhone OS 2.2.1, but they said it works fine with OS 2.2. BMW has notified Apple with this issue.

Okay.
Finally I was able to find the fix for the audio drop outs. There were some corrupted records in my contact list that I had to fix. I think that what made the blue tooth reinitializing every 30 to 45 seconds which resulted the audio drops out. So every time it tries to sync the contact list it stopped the syncing and restarted it again and that were the BT reinitializing happens. So to fix it I had to fix the corrupted the records in my contact list. Here are the steps that I followed to clean up my contact list:

1-Exported the contact list from outlook to a DOS comma separated CVS file

2-Under outlook contact I created another contact list named test-contac.

3-I restored the exported CVS file under test-contact.

4-I have noticed that the test-contact list is missing some of the records ( some names and some phones). And that how I figured out that the missing records are the corrupted records.

5-I compared the contact list with the test-contact list and manually added the missing records in the test-contact list.

6-Through iTunes I only synced my iPhone to the test-contact list and made sure only the test-contact listed is synced to the iPhone.

7-I deleted the pair on the iPhone and iDrive then repaired them again. And wow I saw my contact list in the iDrive and there was no drops out in audio.

For you who are having the same issue that I had, please try my steps and let me know if that worked for you.

It took me about a week before I came with this solution. One of the steps that you might to try before my steps is try to pair your iPhone to your iDrive with no contact list or records on the iPhone address book.

Thanks
