Macbook Pro making weird creaking noises?

I have had my Macbook Pro since early November. Recently when picking it up, shifting positions or sometimes typing, there has been creaking/cracking noises. It is really annoying. I was wondering if this is a wide spread quality issue or what.

You said there shouldn't be a voltage differential between you and the open notebook. Apple says, you should first touch a metal part inside your MacBook to get the same voltage. Obviously you can touch anything that's metal inside then, but what shouldn't be touched before you touch a metal part inside your MacBook?

What do you mean what shouldn't be touched? You can touch anything and everything you want once you have first brought the electrical potential of your body to be the same as that of the chassis of the computer.

If this is not easy to understand then my next piece of advice is to not remove any screws from your computer. Leave it to someone who does understand.

Hey guys, I believe that the issue is the screws that fasten the bottom panel to the laptop. Ever so often, those screws will require re-torquing due to regular stresses that the unibody construction is subject to. (It is my belief that) the reason as to why previous polycarbonate and aluminum macbooks didn't experience this is due to their (relatively) flexible construction, and as such, when the bottom panel flexed, the chassis itself was more flexible than the ones that then unibodies are constructed of, and as such, the when the bottom panel flexed, the screws would flex the chassis in their sockets, allowing them to seat without requiring being torqued down.
Not an excuse, just a theory of mine, as I too believe that this is a quality control issue that should be addressed, as I found mine to be very annoying when it did the same thing to, and I anticipate that this will cause more aggravation when it continuously occurs.

I am having this problem with my MacBook Pro Unibody with Antiglare screen and 256GB Solid State drive that I purchased in August of 2009. It is very frustrating because I am generally working in a very quiet environment and often with the laptop on my lap. I can confirm that the noise DOES OCCUR WHEN IT IS NOT TURNED ON. It is definitely a tink noise and has an aluministic (if there is such a word) sound to it. It happens when I rest my hands on the laptop all the time now and definitely when I press the bottom casing as well as when I pick it up. I am going to call Apple about it this week. Actually I already have a call from an Expert scheduled for Wednesday to discuss the split screen issue I am having on my new iMac 27" i7. I moved from PC to Mac in August 2009 and love working on such a fast and easy to use computer but frankly the money I have spent on these computers should equate to top notch mercedes quality computers that don't have the sort of issues you would see on cheap gear. Let's leave that to the "other" companies making PC's. Ironically, I have had less issues with the hardware I spent $500 on from HP than I have with these. Had it not been for the horrible OS I may have been content to stay with them. Needless to say I love my Mac's and am glad to be back but I want to get what I paid for and not what I could have paid a fourth of the cost to get on a PC.

Please let us know what you find out.
My MacBook Pro has just started doing this same crazy 'tinking' noise in the last few weeks. I purchased it in Oct '09 and it's been great, but now not only is it noisy but it's also slowed down...I'm afraid I'm going to have to either mail it off or lug it 250+ miles to the nearest Apple Store. And it's not the sudden movement stabilizer either, mine does it when sitting completely still and even when turned OFF--freaked me out the first time I heard that.
Thanks!

BUMP to this thread.

I have been having the same problem for about two weeks now, and it has gotten progressively worse, especially in the bottom right side of my Macbook. In addition, I have also noticed that the bottom panel is no longer flush to the rest of the aluminum bottom casing, which is leading me to believe the the tightening the screw issue may be correct. However, I want to hold off until I know more.

Has anyone heard anything yet?

chalk it up to another annoying creak sound from the bottom right hand side of the machine, seems to be coming just to the right of the trackpad - any ideas what could be causing this? - i have the 2010 i7 15" mbp

at first I had the immediate 'faulty hard-drive' reaction, it kinda sounds like the gravity switch on the hard-drive clicking back and forth into place.

any help would be great

My macbook pro also has this problem. I have only had my laptop for about a week but every time I lift or type on it, the computer makes a creaking/clicking sound. Also, when the laptop gets heated, the entire bottom casing can move inwards and makes a poping sound (kind of like sound of when you press down on an opened can lid...) Does anyone else have this problem? and should I call apple since I still have time to exchange/return it?
