Streaming audio / .pls files?

PLS is a computer file format that stores multimedia playlists. It is a more expressive format than basic M3U, as it can store (cache) information on the song title and length — extended M3U supports this, too. With PLS version 2, playlists also include a PLS version declaration.


To play these files you need a media player on your operating system that is able to play these files. One of these media players is iTunes.


If you wish iTunes to handle this there is a couple ways


1. Obtain the URL to the file you are clicking on, Typically if you right click on it and click copy link it will copy the file link location.

Once you have done this launch iTunes - Click Advanced - Open Audio Stream - Paste the link you copied. The link should end in .pls iTunes will now play this file for you.

2. If you happen to be able to save the file, Simply launch iTunes, Click on File - Open File - browse for the .pls file you saved and open


3. Launch iTunes - Preferences - Advanced - Use iTunes for internet playback Press Set. Now go to the website click the link and it will auto launch in iTunes.

How do I do this on the iPhone?
The instructions mention copy / paste and right clicking - can't do that on iPhone.

i dont think you can do that on the iphone, but if you are trying to listen to that station live(a slight delay), there are several apps available in the AppStore where you could listen to radio stations. i know i just tried KCDX on WunderRadio and it works

I try to play .pls file on my iphone using your instructions but i am unable to play in iphone just i was able to play in itune in my computer.
Please give me instruction to play in my iphone.

Have you tried the radio apps mentioned in the post immediately above yours.

Yeah i did download flycast but still i am not able to find it how.
I will tell you what i did
1) I copied thelink which ends with .pls and paste in audio stream.
once i did copy in my PC it started to play but I could not find the same in my iphone to play. I did sync as well but is of no use.
questiong where it will store that pls file in my iphone?
How flycast will open this file in my iphone?

I did an app search for .pls... http://appshopper.com/search/?search=.pls There are 13 apps, flycast is not one of them. Try one of those 13. If you have specific questions regarding an app, contact the developer as they know more about their app than we do.

Try FStream it is free and works. Sound is not the greatest but ok, and you may need to enter the stream information manually; it doesn't come with preset stations.

I have found that after a while the iPhone will get a bit warm.

I have found it gets warm after a while though, and drains battery fast.

yeah it works, but as you told iphone is warming up and drains battery fast.

There is no other player which can play .pls file?

Hi guys,

I downloaded TVU player. It will work only with wi-fi. If am out or if unable to connect to wi-fi I can't watch TVU. Can any one suggest how to run TVU player with out connecting to Wi-Fi????

I tried doing this with this particular PLS files, or even the URL, and it doesn't play anything. I don't have issues playing other audio stream files. Also, a friend sent me a WMV file and I couldn't play it - iTunes or Quicktime.
What do I do?
