Not sure when mine is going to get here since it has said "Shipment Exception" all day and is still sitting in Shanghai. Was supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Guess I have more time to get ready to test it!

For starters, please test it on VISTA, surf the web, push the graphics, and tell us what you find!!

Installed, everything works fine ( like before for me) I do NOT have Vista...

This is what I actually quoted that it's supposed to do right from the updates section in the Support Downloads. Gosh, I hope it works.

Even though I haven't experienced this issue, I am VERY happy to see that Apple is resolving it with a firmware update! Even if it doesn't completely fix it, this is a strong indication that it is a bug and not a design flaw.

I already have a working UMBP17....I'm going to wait a bit before updating. Apple had a update not so long ago then later took it back cause it didn't fix it and caused more problems for some users.

I'm wondering how they fixed it (if it is really is fix). Did they under clock the GPU or was it a fix for the fans... I wish they would be more specific about.

I'm with you...if it's fixed awesome, but I would like to know what they did.

I can tell you that it doesn't seem to be a fan fix as my fans are still sitting at around 2000rpm. I can't seem to figure out what it did....

I hope it's not an under clocked GPU fix, what would be the point of having a faster GFX if it's not running at fulll speed.

Those who had display issues should post results. Those who never had issues if your brave enough please post results likewise.

Unfortunately, poorly implemented hardware can be "fixed" with firmware/software updates.

Looks like the firmware update fixed my problem. Haven't done extensive testing yet, but it definitely looks promising. Temperature still goes high, but no glitches to be seen on 85C (which was not the case before the update).
