How do I use iPod without Itunes?

I would like to forego the pesky iTunes software and be able to use my Ipod without iTunes. Please help.

But, what about not using iTunes? Does that in any way change the probability or possibility of elctrocution? Will the iTunes protect me from the electrocution?
