'09 mini not compatible with mini-DVi to video adapter?

I hooked up my new '09 mini to my AV receiver via Apple's mini-DVI to video adapter but got no picture. My previous mini ('06 model) worked fine w/ the DVI to video adapter. I'm thinking the mini-DVI port on the new mini doesn't pass analog signals anymore, i.e., it's now DVI-D vs previously being DVI-I.

Anyone else have this experience w/ the '09 models? I know it works with the older models. I'm just trying to figure out if I have a defective adapter or if the '09 mini's DVI just doesn't pass analog. I noticed the supplied mini-DVI to DVI cable is DVI-D, so maybe that is a hint.

The problem is the analog TV. Apparently, the Mac Mini just doesn't output analog video signals, unlike the previous model, which gave both analog and digital. So the Mac Mini seems to work fine with digital TV's (judging from your and other comments), but not with analog anymore. And the Mini-DVI to Video adapter requires an analog signal, so is useless with the Mac Mini.

I suppose I need to look for either another computer (which would be a shame) or get a digital TV, which is due sooner or later anyway, but I don't like to be forced into it this way.

I have the same problem and I completely agree to your peevedness about the Apple information policy.

In addition I can report about another method I tried without success:
I connected MacMini and analogue TV via a Mini Display Port to DVI adapter followed by a DVI to S-video / composite video adapter (which works fine with my old PBP and the same TV). According to the monitor configuration window the MacMini recognises that a NTSC/PAL device is connected but it adjusts the resolution to 1280x1024 pixels / 60 Hz which is complete nonsense and does not allow any other adjustments.

I'm so irritated right now! I bought a Mac Mini, for the SOLE purpose of using for our projector. The Apple website specs it as to being able to support both monitors. We've been using a MINI DVI to Video (S-Video / RCA) and it has worked fine with two iMacs and a Mac Book Pro.

Plug in the Mac Mini.... nothing.... AT ALL!

I bring it back to the Apple store, 45 miles away, and the "Genius" tries to tell me that two displays are not supported. I show him the Apple Website Specs, and they say it's a hardware failure in the Mac Mini.

They give me another one, I take it home, SAME THING!

Now I'm reading this forum, and it all makes sense.

Thanks Apple, for killing the analog, and NOT TELLING ANYONE!

** APPLE I NEED A SOLUTION **

This is very disruptive. I am an business development manager. I have recently and gratefully converted back to MAC. I purchased a MB-PRO for business travel / a MAC Mini for our conference room and a Mac Mini for a home entertainment center.

As a BDM, I need to support legacy conference room projectors for business presentations.

The 18 year old brilliant Apple Genius at the Apple store, spoke to me as if i was archaic and told me just to buy a new flat screen TV. That's wonderful ... and why not spend 3000 dollars to support the 600 dollar MAC purchase for my children's video room... but it's unreasonable to purchase a new monitor for the conference room of every potential customer.

I realize I am probably not Apples largest market segment - and possibly Apple is continuing to target the home consumer market, but since the move to Intel Core Duo, and VMWare there is an increasing number of business folks moving to the MACOS.

Unfortunately I cant afford to take my new MacBook Pro with me on the road. Which may mean the reluctant return to IBM/Lenovo.
