Well, no, it doesn't depend on how rough you are with it. If the poly Macbook is X fragile, and the alu is Y fragile, that is kind of set in stone. I see what you mean though.

Anyway, the aluminium Macbook should be stronger than the plastic one in theory, except for the screen in the alu one, because the glass can get cracked (though it is very good glass). The alu Macbook is more prone to scratching and denting, but the plastic one is more prone to cracking.

fragile?? are you kidding?? have you HELD one of these things? You can lift the entire computer, when open, from one of it's corners, and it won't even FLEX. the plastic macbook will TOTALLY bend, just like most computers.

FRAGILE? probably the toughest 13" notebook on the market, other than ones purpose built fort extreme conditions.

These aluminum MacBooks are extremely fragile. While it's true that they won't flex when held by a corner, just a small bump will cause a dent, take out your display, or damage your hard drive. Our family just bought 3 MacBooks 2 weeks ago and for the most part love them, but our daughter dropped hers from a low height onto carpet. The LCD under the display cracked. Apple wanted $1,240.00 to repair it (Applecare doesn't cover damage like this). We sent it to an online Mac repair place who wanted $600. Then they found the HD was also damaged. The repair cost almost $900.00 all told, and I absolutely guarantee that any of our old plastic PCs have withstood much harder abuse with no problems whatsoever.
I still love the form and function of my MacBook, but would tell those wanting a portable machine for work or school to think twice before carrying a delicate piece of art around.

The new macbook is extremely fragile. Any knocks will twist and bend the macbook and result in heavy damage. I just dropped mine yesterday and the trackpad is so bent that I can't click anymore

I don't think you're supposed to drop a computer, that could have something to do with it.

I would say the MBs are extremely durable and unfragile (making up words as i go) when compared to the previous MB's/iBooks
