How do I set up Remote SL to use with the synths in Logic 8?

I've just bought a Novation Remote 37 SL to use with my Logic 8 setup. I want it to controll the synths, not the mixer. I have downloaded templates from novation and followed the instructions in sending the templates to the controller and setting up the transport thing in Logic, but it still dosen't work. Maybe because the instructions are for Logic 7? I had to convert the instructions to Logic 8 myself, but I may have done it worng.

If someone could give me a step by step guide for this, it would be super!!

I'm not talking about third-party plug-ins, but the native synths in Logic. The synths in Logic dosent use Automap, but www.novationmusic.com has templates for them. I downloaded them and sent them to the Remote SL. The different controlls pops up on the displays on the Remote SL, but can't connect to the synths in the program. When I use template 38 I can controll some of the controlls in the mixer. Last time I used this template, it said that it was for ProTools, but now it says "Automap". Strange! And template 39, which is named "Logic" dosen't work, with Logic. What is the logic behind that?
I read somewhere that HUI was a ProTools-thing, but since the guides tell me to use it, it's enabled.

mlehmann:
When I set up the DAW, the "DAW Setup Guide" told me to use "Mackie / HUI / HUI" where you told med to use "Remote SL". I tried to add the Remote, it didn't help. I tried to delete the Mackie, still nothing happened.

I have turned off the "Use Automap HUI" and gone through the DAW setup without HUI and with the Remote SL instead of the Mackie HUI HUI. I have a template for the ES 2 synth in template number 11 on the Remote. It still dosen't work, but something I did (I'm trying to find back to this, but can't) caused the display to show what is called OscStart in the ES 2. The display showed "free" and when I turned it to "soft" inside the ES 2, the display on the Remote changed. But I can't change it from the Remote. The knobs won't grab the parameters. The Remote usually displays Osc1Tune and Osc1Det and so on, which I can change on the Remote (the knobs grab the parameters), but nothing happens in Logic/ES 2. Except one of the knobs (second to the left in the upper row) controlls some kind of volume that I haven't been able to find inside Logic. And the weird thing is that it only goes up to 72, so when I turn it I turn down the volum and can't bring it intirely back up again. This knob is called "Osc1Tune" on the display.

The best thing would be if someone could give me a fairly detailed walkthrough on what to do. I thought this was going to be easy, that's one of the reasons i bought the Remote in the first place, but I don't understand a thing and there is so much to think about. It dosen't help that I'm kind of new to Mac as well. And I think it's really strange that Novation haven't yet automapped the native synths in Logic! I don't have the time to fidle with this anymore.

Please tell me if you don't know what to do, mlehmann, so I can try to ask Novation about it.

Thank you!!

I don't use any particular template for a synth. I'm using the template for Logic (around 37 but don't remember the exact number). In fact, the RemoteSL configures itself for that template when I open Logic. The way I work, the right side is assigned to the mixer and the left side is assigned to any plugin selected. If I select another plugin, the parameters on the RemoteSL change, following that new plugins. The reason why Novation can't automap the native synths in Logic like the do with Audio Units is because those plugins are built inside Logic.

Of course, if it doesn't work the way you want, I suggest you to call Novation Support, there's plenty of guys there, being paid for that. I'm really sorry it's such a mess for you because it was very easy for me and I didn't have a single problem. I'm sorry I can't help you more because I don't have my Remote with me now.

i have figured out how to control logic 8 synths with the remote sl compact. only took me about 25 tries to figure out spanning one year's time, hehe. well the deal is you have to select the track on the arrange view with the mouse, this will make white and red vertical lines on the track, make sure only one red line is on all tracks, make sure it is on the track you are playing. Note, follow the updated directions on setting up hui and all that, pay attention to the tiny triangles in the environment. Anyway, so when you press the shift button it toggles between instrument and mixer, so click the arrange page, click the track you want to play with the mouse (note: if you use the focus track method on the mixer mode with the controller, it will "select" many tracks with the red lines, whatever those lines are i don't know yet), anyway select only one with the mouse and then press shift to go into instrument mode and viola, the intended instrument is being controlled with your controller. I don't know why the controller selector messes up the focus on which instrument is focused, something to do with those red lines, some kind of selection indicators, those are. Ok hope that helped.
