17" MBP Uni - Battery (mAh): 12000 or 17000 - Check your batteries!

Hey All,

This may be very premature, but it would seem some people are reporting 17000(mAh) on their batteries after calibration, while most are reporting 12000(mAh) or so.

The few with 17000(mAh) are reporting a pretty significant battery life extension over the other people, but it has yet to be determined if this is due to proper calibration, or some lucky users are getting better batteries.

I encourage you all to take a look and post your results. Also, be sure to post whether you have calibrated the battery or not as it may have something to do with it.

Here's how you do this:

- Goto The "Apple" in the Top Left Corner, select "About This Mac"
- Select "More Info..."
- Goto "Power" on the side
- Copy all info from "Battery Information" (Don't need System Power Settings)

Thanks!

PC!!, Windows Vista, Funny,,,it just works!

It would seem my battery is only a 12,000 mAh too! It's very unlucky for us if others are getting 5,000 extra mAh for free but if my battery lasts 8 hours on a full charge (which it almost always does if I keep the brightness right down and only surf) then theirs would theoretically last 11.3 hours!

My bad, ended up quoting Tevlar's info there instead of my own, doh!

Thanks for the link, echristopherj. Of the dozen or so posters in that MacRumors thread, only one — MagicMoxter — reported the 17000± mAh figure. He hasn't reported how long his machine actually runs on a full charge, which would be very useful and telling information. It would also be very interesting to have him run the calibration procedure again and see whether he still got the same battery capacity readout afterward.

I think somethings wrong with this MBP, It's been slow since day one. I haven't calibrated the battery. I am assuming that in order to do so correctly you just follow the instructions that come up when you search the desktop help...

Also, for longevity and battery health, should the computer be plugged in and charging anytime it is possible or is it good to sometimes let it run off solely the battery??

How do you all treat your batteries?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks eww,

Kind of off topic question... but I am going through the draining step right now with the computer battery and am at 25% as I post this. I am also using time machine to back files up to an external hard drive... I know that it won't finish in time... are there any horrible things that can happen if I stop the backup if its only about half way finished?

I also have no clue as to what model my MBP is, I received it late 2007 and don't now what category this places it in. It should be a high res display and glossy... I am not sure how to go about checking this information as well.

Thanks in advance.

I don't use Time Machine, but I would certainly not interrupt a backup for the sake of calibrating my battery if I had already put the calibration off for more than a year. Plug your AC adapter back in and let Time Machine finish its business in peace. Then calibrate the battery.

The reason I don't use Time Machine is that I don't want it trying to run when I'm not expecting it to. I greatly prefer performing my backups on my own schedule, using SuperDuper.

Your MBP is not one of the unibody models to which this forum is devoted, and thus not one of the ones whose battery capacity is under discussion in this thread.
