Flash Plugin Causes Crashes...

Hello,

Recently I have been getting app freezes in Safari 3.2.1, Firefox 3.0.7, and NetNewsWire and have had to force quit them. At first I thought I might have a user profile issue or something. I tested in another "clean" profile and got the same error so basically narrowed it down to Flash. I went to adobe's site and updated to the latest player. I wasn't too out of date since I have CS4 installed. That seemed to improve things a bit. But I still was getting freezes and decided to install the Flash Block extension for Firefox which caused it to not freeze...unless I clicked on the flash bit that froze it before which when I knew it was Flash causing the crashes. It isn't all flash. YouTube video is fine. But some videos on Gizmodo or Collegehumor seem to be doing it today. So seems to be maybe the embedded flash video player/version being used. But it just started happening in the last couple days. Anyone else experiencing this type of problem?

Macbook Pro 2.53Ghz (Late 2008), Mac OS X (10.5.6), Flash Plugin version 10.0.22.87

I'm seeing something similar. For me a youtube flash video will start playing very very choppily (Is that a word?) and stuttering then the entire Mac will lock up, in fact it's so bad that caps lock won't light up. The only recourse is a system reboot by holding down the power button.

Both times for me it was youtube's flash-based video and when the lock up occurred, the audio was stuck repeating a bit of sound so that it sounded like a ticking almost.

I installed a temperature monitor app after the first time it happened to see if the Mac was overheating but when the Mac froze the second time the temperature on-screen was well within normal operating temps.

Nothing was written to the log of course.

I have experienced this same issue repeatedly recently while playing various embedded Flash videos in Camino 2.0b2. Turns out I was using Flash 9. Not sure if that helps or hurts.

Anyway I have upgraded to the latest Flash 10 and trashed the Preferences folder mentioned by Howard. I really hope this resolves the issue. Otherwise it's on Apple and Macromedia to sort out the graphics driver call causing these crashes.

I just want to join L3EOO in expressing gratitude to Howard for this solution.

I was at my wit's end with this relentless cycle of browser crashes and by following that simple advice -- [removing] the folder /Users/<myaccount>/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/ while no browsers were running and then [restarting the browser] -- apparently made all these problems go away.

How thankful I am for helpful fora like this one, and for advice like Howard's!
