Problems with syncing iPhone and Calendar with iTunes 8.1

I just updated to the new iTunes version 8.1. I just tried to sync my iPhone, and got the Sync Alert:
"Syncing with your iPhone will change more than 5% of your Calendars on this computer."

Under the Modify section, it lists all of the birthdays found in my address book. For some reason, it wants to update the location information of all of those birthdays from my address book to an empty location. There are also a few random calendar events that I have updated within the past week(?) that iTunes also suddenly wants to modify.

Is this an error, or is it a new way that Apple is synchronizing birthdays? I chose to Cancel the sync operation instead of modifying all of the birthday information. Unfortunately, now none of my added calendar events can be updated to my iPhone without also modifying ALL of what I described.

Itunes 8.1 screwed-up one of my calendar (at least) after I synced with my iPhone 3G.
Sync seemed to happen with no issue (read no error messages), but:
- actual data in iPhone did not get updated
- iCal data got an enormous number of duplicated events: have very old stuff being repeated daily on one calendar.

As I do not want to loose historical data in this calendar, I'm now looking for any solution to get it back to normal...
Any app that could make a "diff" between 2 calendar versions?

Thanks.

I had this problem and when i connected my iphone i went to the info tab scrolled down to calender ( No supported calender application can be found). I further scrolled down to advanced and clicked on replace information on this iphone: check calender and resync and the problem was fixed. Notice that the calender box is the only one that can be checked.

PC/Outlook 2007
Same problem. Fixed by Reset Sync History in iTunes. Then Sync. If Sync hangs, cancel, disconnect, restart iTunes, connect. Sync worked and still working after several tests.

From: http://discussions.apple.com/post!reply.jspa?threadID=1937530
1. Open iTunes.
2. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
3. Click the Devices tab.
4. Click the Reset Sync History button.

Same here. When I start the sync, it says 'Syncing calendar' at the top of the screen, then the error box pops up because I don't have a calendar program installed...and on the Info page, there's no option to turn off calendar syncing, because there's no calendar program installed. Catch 22.

Never happened before 8.1. Good going, Apple! Good to see MS don't have the monopoly on f *ing things right up.

Upgrade to iTunes 8.1 has destroyed my evening, talk about Friday the 13th!
Nothing would sync. iTunes applymobiledevicehelper crashed other sync programmes for mobile me preferences crashed. I could not access the sync tab in mobile me preferences and data on the phone was wiped!

Yet another iTunes/Mobile me triumph!

System restore- no help. Re-install no help.

Then I read the helpful post below suggesting a reset of sync data in iTunes and then in Mobile me preferences.

Success- I seem to have everything back (diary, contacts, bookmarks) and the data in Outlook has not been corrupted.

Thank-you for this helpful advice. Apple what are you doing releasing an upgrade that caused so much trouble?

I did the reset sync process by going to the edit / preferences / device tab and deleting all of my old backups plus clicking the reset sync option.

As soon as I did another sync it synced the contacts and calendar with no problem. It did ask me to accept 3 mods to my contacts and fix one conflict with the calendar (which did not even look like a conflict).

I am using Windows Vista Business, iTunes 8.1, iPhone 3G v.2.2.1 and Outlook 2003.

yeah this works
"http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2654

by toggling the calendar sync off then back on."

thanks effyoo!

now, if they could just get my subscribed calendars to work on my iphone, then i would be a happy camper. well, flash & quicktime playback and a junk mail filter would be nice too. i will keep my fingers crossed these get fixed on later updates.

So I made the mistake of accepting iTunes' request to modify 60 of my appointments after the 8.1 update. Now I've got numerous all-day events that have been changed to go from 11 pm to 11 pm. Kind of a mess.

Any simple way to go back to how it was before this last sync? And if so, how do I prevent this from happening again?

Thanks.
