Problems with syncing iPhone and Calendar with iTunes 8.1

I just updated to the new iTunes version 8.1. I just tried to sync my iPhone, and got the Sync Alert:
"Syncing with your iPhone will change more than 5% of your Calendars on this computer."

Under the Modify section, it lists all of the birthdays found in my address book. For some reason, it wants to update the location information of all of those birthdays from my address book to an empty location. There are also a few random calendar events that I have updated within the past week(?) that iTunes also suddenly wants to modify.

Is this an error, or is it a new way that Apple is synchronizing birthdays? I chose to Cancel the sync operation instead of modifying all of the birthday information. Unfortunately, now none of my added calendar events can be updated to my iPhone without also modifying ALL of what I described.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6), 2.53 GHz, 4 GB

I've just hit the same issue, and it definitely doesn't look right. I wouldn't want to lose the link between birthdays and the associated contact entries, so I'm skipping that part of the sync until this gets fixed.

Same problem here. Syncing works fine until it gets to the calendars, then it goes forever. This was an immediate problem upon update to 8.1, as everything worked great until that point. Looking at the task manager under windows during the sync, there's very little activity going on. I'm trying a restore now to see if that helps, didn't see the comment about the birthdays until too late 😟. All I have to do is turn off calendar syncing and it works. Interestingly, if I turn on calendar syncing, but use the "Sync selected", but don't select any calendars, it still hangs.

Same issue here. After iTunes 8.1 upgrade, Calendar does not sync. iPhone name is OK.

Message:

ITunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone "my phone name here" because an error occurred while sending data from the iPhone.

Looks like a bigger issue. I should have waited to upgrade iTunes!

Similar problem with iCal. It says "iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone <my phone's name> because an error occurred while sending data from the iPhone."

No problems prior to this.

I may just do a Restore on the iPhone, since I don't yet have any updates there that aren't on my computer.

Tried 2 things, and the problem seems to be solved:

First, went to this Apple Support page, (Resetting Sync Services) and followed the directions:

Then, restarted the MacBook. Everything seems back to normal, for now...

That procedure did NOT work for me.

But I hadn't previously turned on calendar syncing via mobileme. I finally turned it on, and now everything's OK (plus I'm using mobileme!)

Could this have anything to do with Daylight Savings Time?

The upgrade to iTunes came out about the same day as the time change. Since all my recurring birthdays are now off by one hour (11:00 PM - 11:00 PM), maybe Daylight Time is involved?

I have this problem. AS sson as iTunes 8.1 installed I get this error when I synch.
So far I have:
1 - Reset synch history
2 - Restarted PC
3 - Restarted iPhone
4 - Deleted all calendar entries on iPhone
Still getting the problem. I have no calendar app on my PC and on the info tab it says 'No supported calendar application found'
Only had my iPhone a week and this is not a good introduction.

I don't think so, as we're still in GMT in the UK and I have the problem. I've raised a bug report for it with Apple, so will see what they come back with.

exact same error message and never had ANY sync problem before upgrade to itunes 8.1 yesterday. It was advertised as including bug fixes, not bug creations!!!

Had the same problem using Outlook 2007. Unchecked the Sync Calendars with Outlook option in the info tab and hit apply, which started the sync process. After the sync process was done, checked the Sync Calendars option again and used the selected calendars option instead of all calendars. Now it appears to be working...

so in general I am now again able to sync my iPhone with the calendar but do you also have two seperate calendars now? A red and a orange botton? I don't had them before I was doing the upgrade of iTunes? I had blue entries in the calendar on the phone and now everything is red.
