My Mac Pro was automatically awaken from sleep.
When I sleep my mac pro, it was randomly awaken from sleep. And then internal bluetooth adapter was disable.... If I try reconnect bluetooth, there was appeared Spinning wheel of death.

Mac Pro is early 2008 model, and MacOS 10.5.6. I was tried PRAM Reset, SMC Reset, etc, etc. But nothing was help me.

I inspect system log. And I found log "USB (EHCI):Port 6 on bus 0xfd connected or disconnected: portSC(0x101803)". So, I changed old USB Hub to new one. But trouble was re-apeeared tonight.

what was matter? how can I resolve this trouble? I attached my system log. please help me.

Ok, I had to upgrade from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 because of my new ATI HD 4870 video card.

Since, my computer didn't get out of sleep overnight! I hope this will continue...

But I still have the problem about my HP monitor that wake up the Mac Pro just after I put my system to sleep, when the monitor goes itself to sleep.

I checked my setup and fortunately I do have the USB Prober installed under the developer folder so I decided to look deeper. Here is my system log output just after a fresh reboot and after having put my Mac Pro manually to sleep:

+May 28 08:56:00 voielactee-2 kernel[0]: System Sleep+
+May 28 08:56:24 voielactee-2 kernel[0]: Wake reason = EHCI+

+May 28 08:56:24 voielactee-2 kernel[0]: USB (EHCI):Port 4 on bus 0xfd has remote wakeup from some device+

Into the USB Prober, under the IOService Plane, I have this:

+0x1d: UHC1@1D <class IOPCIDevice>+
+0x3d: UHC2@1D,1 <class IOPCIDevice>+
+0x5d: UHC3@1D,2 <class IOPCIDevice>+

*+IOUSBInterface@0 <class IOUSBInterface>+*
+3: CNF8215@fd430000 <class IOUSBDevice>+
+5: Digital Picture Frame@fd442000 <class IOUSBDevice>+

I took care to disconnect everything from my USB HUB before the test.

If I look at the "Details" button, I get these:

+bDeviceClass 9 (0x9)+
+bDeviceSubClass 0 (0x0)+
+CFBundleIdentifier com.apple.driver.AppleUSBHub+
+Errata 0 (0x0)+
+High Speed 1 (0x1)+

+DriverChangePowerState 3 (0x3)+
+IOProbeScore 50000 (0xc350)+
+IOProviderClass IOUSBDevice+
+IOUserClientClass AppleUSBHSHubUserClient+

Unfortunatly, the tabulation isn't kept into this editor, sorry for the output...

For me, it look's like the Apple USB HUB driver is the faulty guy. It doesn't seem to understand that it is normal for the monitor to shutdown power when it goes to sleep!

May 28, 2009 9:52 AM in response to Hans Luijten

I got to be honest, I did not think much of the sleep problems, but mine has "woken up" twice now (unexpectedly) since 10.5.7.
My thinking is: judging by some users of buffalo drives (see discussion http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9489212#9489212 it's loong!)
and some other wake issues there could be indeed a correlation between the 10.5.7 update and the logic board (as some users with ATI graphics cards http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=701313 also had problems).

Now this would be for some Apple engineers with knowledge of how the logic board is "wired" (luted whatever) and at precisely what point the 10.5.7 updated either PCI or USB connections (hardware) of the logic board.

May 28, 2009 10:11 AM in response to Alexandre

Well, I don't see why 10.5.7 could be the only problem seeing that I had this problem before with 10.5.6 !

And it seem that the problem as gone away with 10.5.7 for me 🙂 Until I notice a new wake up event...

To recap, I have this problem since I have my new monitor HP w2558hc that come with an USB HUB. And if I unplug the monitor USB HUB cable from the USB port of my Mac Pro, the problem never happen.

The downside to do this is that I would loose my monitor "SD/xD/MMC/MemoryStick" and "Compact Flash I/II/MD" cards adapter, my monitor USB port where I plug my iPhone and my monitor USB camera and microphone that I use for video chatting 😟

They are all part of this monitor USB HUB.

Hello to Rigel007 in Montreal,
to recap on my recent post, I did have some issues but resolved them fully by deleting the autowake.plist and com.apple.PowerManagement.plist and then doing the required adjustments from system prefs/energy saver (etc) and it worked a treat.

I have been following the problems and they seem to be related to certain issues as indicated in my earlier post. I do not have the "wiring" (luting) diagrammes for the logic board, but it seems something that affects the way the the USB/PCI configurations "talk" to the remainder of the system. And this could be something like a checksum or hidden command.
If 10.5.7 solved issues for you, that is great (I did not have any problems, unlike some unfortunate others, but found the sleep issues recur periodically), so I am not knocking the update just implying that there could be the aforementioned correlation.

Greetings from London 🙂 User uploaded file

Ah! there was a little twist to that one, now I assumed automatically - but wrongly, and I shall give myself a slap on the wrist for that one!. Ok, done. 🙂

Right: After deleting the two files, you need to go to system preferences/energy saver and firstly set the wake up options, ok them, close the window, then un set them. That way, OSX will have created a autowake.plist that should have Nil values. Sorry, I should have said that in the first place. (restart is not required) 😉

Did that work?

May 28, 2009 12:54 PM in response to Alexandre

Nope!

I am not sure about the right "set" & "unset. button, seeing that I have the French version. I guest you were meaning under the "Programmer..." button, the one that give you the opportunity to program the time when the computer wake up and go back to sleep.

As soon as I play with it, I could see the autowake, plist file appear into the files system.

Still, it didn't fixed my monitor problem: When the monitor goes on sleep, it wake up the Mac Pro...

Thanks anyway 😉

I have just done a little test. Using the Aluminium (USB) key board, I moved it gently (Mac Pro sound asleep). I then lifted one end of the (still plugged in) keyboard and let it drop (distance ± 3/4" no more than that) onto my desk writing mat (note: I paid special attention not to touch any keys but held the far ends of the aluminium enclosure)
The machine decided to wake from sleep! {Before, I tried holding the USB camera connector (it always sits in my USB port so it's ready if I need to connect my camera} to a piece of pipe or metal which had no effect at all. But the keyboard did it]; can anyone else replicate this (which could point to either keyboard or "hyper" sensitivity of USB 2 ports (whatever you may wish to call it).

I'm having the same issue. MacBook, black, 2Ghz core duo. I had the problem with 10.5.6, tried a combo update to 10.5.7, still the problem. Here's the relevant log info from system.log:

Nothing is plugged in. The only thing on 0xfd is the iSight. I tried turning it on and off (photobooth), no change. Dang thing won't sleep!

This has happened before, and it was fixed by using pmset to change the hibernate mode. Tried that.

Here's the USB probe info, a little truncated since I'm pretty sure it's irrelevant:

So, I booted into Linux (Ubuntu, 8.01 I think). It reported USB issues during boot, and when I tried to make it sleep it reported the same issues and hung. Different error messages, but now I'm sure it's not the software or a plist file or anything!

Could the 10.5.6 or 10.5.7 updates have caused a hardware problem? Is there something I can zap/reset that will make this stop? I want to be able to sleep my computer!

Here's the Linux log piece:
