gif images in safari taking up cpu

is anyone else having this problem in safari version 4 beta?
i never used to have an issue w/ animated gif images w/ safari..but ever since i started using the latest safari gif images seem to take up 98-116% of cpu.
will this issue be fixed soon on the next safari update?

I'm sure you could have solved the "mystery" yourself and realized i forgot to update what OS i am currently using.

None of here are mind readers. We assume that posters realise that it is important to correctly state what Macs, operating systems, application versions etc, they are using in order for the problem to be diagnosed and hopefully solved. We cannot, and should not, simply assume that some posters are too lazy to even present their problem in an orderly way, and make wild guesses about which facts they present are correct or a complete fiction, or just sloppy thinking.

As your perceived problem with gifs is virtually unheard of, pick any of the above as the likely cause.

This isnt a perceived problem I have it too and it is very very annoying.

Safari will literally freeze to the point of becoming completely unresponsive and showing the beachball of death on pages with large animated gifs that display with no problems in firefox. This is a big problem on a lot of forums. I've also found several other people reporting the same problem while googling for a solution.

To see it in action go here:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=355091

once you scroll down to the section with the animated gifs it will soon become completely unresponsive (beware that this will freeze your safari for a while and it might be a while before it becomes responsive again and lets you close the offending window).

overall performance with animated gifs also seems to be much worse than other browsers, even when it doesnt freeze completely.

i tried a webkit nightly recently and this still wasnt fixed

I can't even describe how I hate this.
I read a LJ community where everyone loves to use animated gifs in their comments. So when I read a post stuffed with a lot of animated gifs (2-5 MB each), Safari freazes hundereds of times. I wouldn't complain, but Firefox renders everything smoothly, no matter what.
The problem has been around for a while, I've sent several bug reports to Apple, but nobody seems to care.
Other than that Safari seems like a perfect browser, but the gif problem really bugs me.

Yes, unfortunately even after updating from the Beta release to the official Safari 4.0 releaset this annoying behavior with animated gifs continues unabated.

I agree with others who recommend that from this point on everyone who is also annoyed by the way Safari handles animated gifs report this directly to Apple using the *Report Bugs to Apple...* command in the Safari menu. Even though the software engineers who work on Safari may not have enough time to check in on these forums, they'll always see reports that come in via the *Report Bugs* channel.

Cheers!
