keyboard compatibility?

Greetings,

Since I need both my beloved iMac and Dell PC on one desk (software availability issues), I have looked into a KVMA (keyboard-video-mouse-audio) to share one keyboard and mouse between the two devices. (Obviously iMac has its own video screen.)

Even though iMac is supposed to recognize an ANSI or 101 key standard keyboard, I can't seem to get it recognized.

Any thoughts folks?

Hey Rollling, what type of keyboard is it? I have a microsoft Wireless Multimedia keyboard 1.1 and mouse and I am able to use it on my mac, then walk up stairs and use it on my dell. Granted I have two connections boxes, if you will hooked up to both computers via usb. And the intellitype software even asks me what type of keyboard layout would you like to use and I could select any type for both machines.

Hey Mr Doobs,

I have an Avant Stellar programmable keyboard. It can run the various other setups besides QWERTY - including left or right hand only - very helpful for fast keyb'd-mouse input in my genealogy program and music composition program.

I can get my standard 101-key 'board to work fine through an iogear KVMA switch, but for some reason the Avant Stellar isn't working - same for running it direct from the iMac. It works fine on the PC. It may be a KVMA incompatibility?

I appreciate any help you can give me.
