Tuning flute and piano to each other

In a piece with piano (midi-keyboard) (Ivory ) and Jam Pack solo flute + EXs pop strings, the flute sounds out of tune with the piano.

I read the Tuning section in the manual, and saw that I can globally alter the tuning from Equal Temperament to others, but I didn't see how to fine tune one instrument to another. Both are set to 440Hz.

I searched this Forum and saw many posts ........... seems you can alter pitch in the EXS ........

Should I do this mathematically or by ear ?

Thanks, Kay.

Hi Erik,

Actually it's most obvious in the higher flute ranges .... my feeling is, that the lower ranges fit. I'll check this in particular. Can I follow your idea if it is NOT equally out of tune across it's range ?

And: how do I remove a plug-in afterwards ? I had this problem with the Space Designer because I listened to a few settings but then wanted to carry on without it ......... and couldn't find a way to remove it again ! Sounds silly perhaps to you seasoned users.

Thanks, Kay.

In the Project Settings you´ll find the Tab "Tuning". See what happens if you select User and pull up the "Upper" slider to, say, 100%.

Not sure it´ll work but I would be interested to see what happens. Perhaps it will stretch the upper notes of the piano so that they don´t clash with the flute. Or perhaps the flute will follow and the result will be even worse.

Personally, I like the Hermode Tuning system, especially for sounds that are supposed to be "in tune", strings, choirs etc. Pretty tricky to mix with distorted guitars, tough.

If this is a MIDI performance of the flute then:

1) Create new track with identical settings
2) Copy flute performance region from original track to new track
3) Go into original track and use MIDI editor to lasso and delete all notes above the key you want to apply the pitch plug to.
4) Go to new track and lasso/delete all notes BELOW the key you want to apply the pitch plug to
5) Apply pitch plug to new track that has the flute notes in the higher register.

To remove any plug just select the plug "button" and while holding down the mouse you will be given the option to remove the plug.

Hope this is clear.....everything you are asking is pretty simple once you know the "trick".
