Remote Control from Steve Jobs?

I had a lot of disappointment with different Remote Controls over the past years. None of them worked reliable in a live situation (I had a lot of different stuff in the area up to 300 EUR - eihter used or seen being used).
For private / home stuff or smaller audiences I use my Apple Remote with great success - but this obviously does not work in cooperate enviroments / when the computer to be comtrolled is in a different room / OB vehicle or similar.

As Steve Jobs is known as some kind of "Control Freak" I was wondering what kind of Remote Control he uses for his keynotes? Something based on UHF maybe? We dont mind spending 500 or more EUR / USD if it is something that works for granted (based on technologies we know and rely on - like UHF for wireless microphones).

thanks

It's been rumored that it's not so much a remote control (that can get hacked) than it is a control that sends a signal backstage so that the crew controlling the presentation manually can change the slides. Even though there's more people involved, when you're talking to a group that may be technically adept enough to try to hack into your control scheme, it's a more controllable situation.

Hm ok, actually I would like it better if the person on stage in all its nervousness cannot directly access my presentztion computer. So then the question would be: what system does he use to transfer the information to his people backstage?

At the same time: when he pushes the button it is always a very responsive. I can hardly imagine that there always somebody is REACTING. It rather looks like a semi-automatic system? So backstage CAN let a push not through but usually they would only monitor it?

any thoughts?

If you rehearse a presentation enough times, then everyone knows what's supposed to happen when, they're just waiting on the signal. Much like a play, everything LOOKS like it's flowing smoothly, but it's all just well choreographed scripts of text tied together by cues. Given the option of having a transition be a half-second late OR having someone in the audience take over the signal, the first option gives you more control. (If you just monitor, someone could take over the signal and flip through 2 or three slides before you can react)

It's been said that it's no more complicated than some wireless box that "turns on a light" backstage. Again, through rehearsal, you KNOW when the light should come on, you're just waiting for the cue. If someone hacks it, doesn't matter, you still follow the script. The KEY being that ONLY the people that KNOW where the presentation is headed has control of the presentation at any time.
