Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu

I'm enjoying playing with the new features of iPhoto 09. I am amused to find that one of my photos originated in Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu. The photo is of my grand daughter holding her American Girl Doll. I thought these dolls are manufactured in WI, but I guess they are made in China and come with their own GPS!!!!!
Joking aside - why do some photos pick such obscure places in China - another one of my grandson in his car seat, is from a nearby area in China, but not the same place as the doll!

Thanks for your quick response and interest. I just recently loaded iPhoto '09 8.0.1. When I clicked on "Places" several pins showed up in the U.S. - obvious, as most of my photos were taken in the US. But a pin also showed up in the above named place, which seems to be in southern China. There are three photos assigned to that area, and actually on further scrutiny, when I zoomed in on the map there are 3 pins in this area. Each photo is assigned to a different area "close" to each other. The three photos were all taken by my daughter's iPhone 3G model, two were taken in Chicago, and one in Wisconsin. I did not do any assigning - these markers just showed up on the world map.
I don't really see this as a problem (for now), I just thought it was a bit amusing and maybe interesting to others!

Hi Jim & Larry,
I've come up with a theory. Those three photos were taken within the first month that my daughter had her iPhone. As the iPhones are manufactured in China - the GPS thought it was still in China - and did not reset itself until my daughter used it or something like that. Her fourth photo sets it, correctly, in Chicago. What do you think?!

Geraldine, you may not be able to remove the place name by clicking on the "x" as the place has been determined by iPhoto. To remove it you may have to select it and enter a more appropriate location. Incidentally, you can return to the "wrong" place again in the future by clinking on the "x" to the side off the new (correct) place you enter. So you can return to have more fun with the wrong place.

Hope this is helpful, enjoy.

Jim
