How do I unlock the blue box?

There is a blue box around some of my paragraphs and not others. For the ones that have the blue box I cannot drag images into the middle. I have tried help, talked to my co-workers, even cycled thru the inspector comparing text with boxes as text without. What's going on? Can I turn them off?

Your description isn't very helpful. From where we sit, we cannot tell whether you're looking at a frame, a graphic object, or a text object, whether that object is inline or floating, or if it's a placeholder object, or where it came from -- whether it's a template element or something you inserted. Take a look at the Pages User Guide in the Help menu and see if you can't give your problem description a little more focus.

Dear Wintertown,

I believe that you are referring to master objects, or items you will see on every page. The way you change or modify them is quite simple. Select the blue box, select in pages, Format>Advanced move object to page. Make the necessary changes and bring the box back to the Master section, using Format>advance, move object to master section.

Hope this will help.

Have you dragged in or copied and pasted this text from a web browser?

This is what a linked text box looks like that comes from a web page. Usually it contains an image which has the link on it but it can also contain a text box where the whole text box acts as a hotspot.

When you hover over it, does the cursor turn into a pointing hand and when you click on it does it open Safari and a web page?

Otherwise:

When you click on the edges or in the box do you see squares on the corners?

What are you talking about?

I'm talking of an object matching the OP's description 😉

1) I have the same problem
2) I'm startled at how few responders were actually responding to your question
3) The answer is that the blue box goes around text that, at some point, Pages thought (probably correctly) was a hyperlink.
4) Headache comes because, when you go to the link inspector and click the checkbox that says "Make all hyperlinks inactive", this does NOT make PAGES think the text is no longer a link. It only makes the link inactive.
5) To make the link go away completely, you need to select the text in the blue rectangle, go to the hyperlink inspector, and now uncheck the checkbox that says "Enable as hyperlink". Voilá! The blue rectangle goes away.
6) Apologies for the snottiness in the first two lines.

Hope this helps.

Hi Wintertown,

Could you please describe the border of your blue box? Are there little objects in any of the corners, and if so, what color and are they solid or open? Also, are there any little objects in the middle of the sides, and if so could you describe them?

All the iWork objects have identifying characteristics when they're selected that tell us about their properties.

Best regards,

Jerry

Hi Walt,

Well, I selected a bunch of content from this URL and pasted it into a Pages Doc. Here's the SS.

User uploaded file

Click once and you get the object sizing handles. Click again and you highlight the cell - see the fill handle? Drag an image over the table and you can drop it there, but it doesn't go into the cell, it just sits on top.

See if you can confirm.

Jerry,

At first all I had was a question mark, but clicking on it took me to your web page. There I saw the box with my post but it did not respond to clicking on it. When I came back to this site the box was displayed, but again no action ensued upon clicking. But, as I said, the image I tested inserting into a cell by dragging just sat on top of the cell, as you had said. But I was able to group it with the cell so it stayed in place when moving the cell.

Hope this clarifies my last post.

Walt

Walt,

Sorry about the link to the graphic not working. I had no idea since it works here. I wonder if others are having the same problem and if it's just a temporary Picasa glitch.

Please let me know if the link starts to work for you.

One more thing; if you create a single-cell table and get a black outline, if you click again, does the outline turn blue?

Jerry
