Easy Wake Won't

Using the Alarm Clock 2 application the ability to have a music track come on low then get louder when the wake up alarm sounds has stopped working. Long ago. Now when the alarm starts it is at what ever volume that I choose buy pressing the sound volume keyboard buttons the night before.

The easy wake box is checked etc. The alarm that I use is a custom track that I made up in GarageBand but using a standard iTunes song makes no dif. My custom track is a single chime like hitting a metal bowl and it rings until the sound dies, there is a pause, then another strike. Over and over. A pleasant way to wake up if it starts quiet and builds to a loud alarm. Not pleasant when I have to just set it loud and when it starts it is a loud ring !

How can I "reset" the function of AlarmClock ? All my updates were recently updated.

Ok this is getting old. I went to the developer of Alarm Clock 2. Sure enough I am not the only one that has trouble with this. There is a how to in the FAQ list. Only prob is for someone who never uses Terminal it is unclear how to proceed.

Sanford,

And I was all optomistic and ready to give ya the points for thankfully pointing out the obvious easy solution to me.

This is what he has posted:

1. Open up the Terminal application This is located in /Applications/Utilities/Terminal
2. Execute the following command defaults write com.digitallity.alarmclock2 'DigitalAudio' -boolean yes You can copy and paste the above line into the application. This command is modifying the preferences for the Alarm Clock application. It is simply telling the application that the user is using digital audio.
3. Restart the alarm clock application, and you should hear the volume scale properly with your digital output setup.

I have attempted to do this about a dozen times. Does nothing.

How does one "Execute a command" does just typing or copying the line into the terminal do that. Do I press execute ? Do I click "Send Reset"? do I quit the Terminal before restarting Alarm clock?
He says to copy this line of text into the application. Is this the full line :

com.digitallity.alarmclock2 'DigitalAudio' -boolean yes

Is that a space between ' and -
?

Should I include : defaults write

I know he says copy it but I am writing this on my iMac and attempting to make my Air function properly so I am typing it in on the Air. If I kill the iMac I am in trouble.

Messing with Terminal seems to have the feel about it of screwing up something majorly.

I assume he means copy the line into the Terminal app but not sure. Should I be opening Alarm in Terminal? The line of text is all run together with his description of how to do it , sort of, so I hope I got the full line. Why can't he put it on a separate line? I just did above.

Then he says restart the alarm. There is no command for this so I finally after many tries of restarting my mac decided to quit the Alarm in the menu bar and "Open" it from the applications folder.

Still does nothing. Should I be using the "Reset" command in Terminal? Is that what he means by "Restart" ?

This is the only time ever that I have had to mess around this way. Just to get an application to continue to do what it did on day one.

To any one writing a FAQ tip please remember not everyone wants to spend hours learning to use Terminal what ever to correct problems that Apple causes for their developers.

Spell it out using exact terms and clearly indicate ( different color letter characters or what not ) what it is I am supposed to put in and WHAT application I am supposed to put it into.

Basically I am only succeeding at a torture test of my mac to see how many times I can put it to sleep and wake it up with the malfunctioning Alarm before it dies.

FUN

And then I look at the get info of Alarm and it is locked so I unlock it. Of coarse that had no effect. Am I supposed to un lock it ?

Apple . . . make an alarm that works so the other guys isn't sabotaged every update so I can quit this nonsense and get back to work on my stuff not your stuff. I am not mister CoCo what ever computer software writer just as I bet you guys don't spend much time with wrenches and a brazing torch.

Sheeesh

PS: yes I am sending that in the feed back.

Nothing like talking to my self.

The simplest solution turns out to be an old speaker I had laying around from an A&R 2.1 set.

It is driven fine by the Air without any other power. It is one channel (so I get mono but that is fine for my alarm chime ) and I just plug it into the audio out.

The actual speaker cone in 60 mm across. There is no indication on it of the power/ohm rating. It is a nice heavy little speaker though so any lesser speaker should work as well i would think.

Thanks for listening. I am going to go now. No don't get up.

So drink up all you people.
Have fun you happy people.
The drink and the laughs on me.
I gotta run
'Scuse me . . . while I . . . disappear . . . . .
