iTunes songs won't import into iMovie after updating to iTunes 8.1

I cannot import any of my iTunes purchased music into iMovie 6.0 after updating to 8.1. I keep being asked to authorize my computer. I do so, and the song still won't load into iMovie. I'll be prompted to authorize again.

Does anyone know a solution?

Thanks for any assistance.

I have just run into thuis as well when making a movie last night. I have often used my own CD's that were put on iTunes, free musif Tuesday songs and itunes purchased music. Now it appears that only my own CD purchased music is usable.

If this is copyright protection then this will force us all to buy the music from other sources in order to use the itunes/imovie interface.

Anyone running into this with 8.1?

You can also open the track you want to use in Garageband, trim it a little, then add it to your iMovie project.

On another note, as much as I absolutely loved iMovie 06 and despised being subjected to having to change the way I thought about movie-making with iMovie 08, I highly recommend giving iMovie 09 a shot. It is super fast and efficient and once you get used to the environment is extremely powerful. Just a thought!

After numerous calls to Apple I finally spoke to someone in iLife support. He told me Apple has REMOVED the ability to use protected songs with iMovie. His solution was to reimport the songs from a burned cd or upgrade to iTunes Plus versions. No problem, only about 1100 songs that I have to deal with!

Unbelievable.

I have always loved Macs and MacOS but the user experience decline is now beyond ridiculous. I found this thread seven years after this issue was raised. Now I am on El Capitan, have the latest iMovie 10.1.2 and yet am getting the same error.

Except, in my case, it is saying there are 4800 songs I cannot use.

In all these years I have probably bought 500 songs on iTunes so there is no way their DRM would apply to nearly 5000 songs including thousands from my own music CD collection imported years ago and usable with no problem for year.

Wonder if others hare having the same problem now in El Capitan.
