What video camera to purchase??

I am looking into buying a video camera and was wondering what people thought of a camera that uses DVD's or memory cards and what would be a good one to purchase.

Here are some guidelines:

Budget: $1200 or less
Use: to create videos for online, play at conventions on large screen and on TV's

any other things I might need to know....THANKS!

my hc90e does not communicate with iMovie 5.0.2. Any good advice? Thanks!

Sony dcr-hc90e works beutiful with MY mac; simple
interface and in out for everything. In Norway it was
6990Nkr in a store $1037!

I've never had any problem with importing footage from my HC-90. When I'm importing I use the power supply rather than the battery. I hook up my FireWire connection, turn the camera on to Playt/Edit, and launch iMovieHD.

The only problem I have had was exporting a movie back to the camera. I solved this problem by re-installing Quicktime.

I really like the camera and it has worked great for me.

Halloi there!
First disconect everything, then redo permissions> then open garageband make some music (it somehow synapses with imovie?) > Next conect hc90 to mac, open imovie newproject >set preferences >THEN you switch on your hc90!
Mac should now see your corder >press import....
Always make movies in shortplay with camcorder and set it to 16 bit audio!

The solution here turned out to be (at the advise of iMovie HD Help) to shut down the computer, unplug ALL cables for ten minutes, reconnect them, connect the camera, start the camera in VCR-mode, then start the computer again. Only then did it recognize the camera!

Basically the right answer! Deep inside iMovie HD Help it also said to turn down the computer, disconnect ALL cables, wait ten minutes (why ten?) and then reconnect the cables, connect the camera, turn camera on in VCR-mode and start the computer up. It then suddenly did recognize my camera!

i have a sony TRV 950 you can't go wrong it is easy to operate and have had no problems exporting into imovie hd

I have a Sony TRV-950 it,s great but depends on your application.
You may not need a 3 chip if your just using it for family or general stuff.
