VMware ESXi on Xserve?

I have no idea if VMware ESXi install on an Xserve, but it installs just fine on my Mac Pro (early 2008). The only problem I had is that my target drive had a GPT partition table which is not supported by VMware ESXi. It would boot but I couldn't download the vm-client from it and the file would have zero k in length.

I rebooted in Mac OS X, opened Disk Utility and repartitioned the target drive using an MS DOS FAT partition table instead of a GPT partition table. I then reinstalled ESXi and I have since been able to install Windows Server 2008 on it and it seems to run faster than in Fusion. Only downside is that the Mac Pro is my main machine and I can't use Mac OS X on it when it's running ESXi... 🙂

I know this might sound a bit out there (and like it would just waste CPU), but what about running ESXi in a virtualized windows environment?

Just a thought if someone might want to try it...

ESXi 4.0 will run on the previous generation Xserve. The Nehalem based systems fail to boot right now.
