FIX for iPod Touch Home Button

Hi Everyone- first post.

I decided to register for this forum after finding a definitive 100% fix for a 1st gen iPod Touch 16gb home button unresponsive or nonfunctional.

1. Place 1 drop of rubbing alcohol on the home button.
2. Press the button repeatedly with pencil eraser making sure to get liquid into area surrounding button.
3. Dry off area with paper towel.
4. Press home button until it works again.

I was ready to buy a new one- and this was my last ditch effort. Now it works like new!

Hope this is helpful- be careful with the amount/type of liquid used- do not use water!!

Thought I would chime in. I have the latest version of iPod touch and was having problems with the home button. I was certain it was software, but my wife's iPhone doesn't have this problem, so that led me to believe it was hardware. It's literally less than 4 months old, so I was really peaved considering I have an iPod classic from 2008 that still works perfectly. Anyways, two things. 1. As an electronics/avionics technician, try to avoid any harsh solvents or isopropol alcohol when cleaning the home button. If the solvent is too harsh it could cause damage to the switch or the circuitry, and isopropol has water in it, which is not good for electronics. As someone mentioned before, try to purchase electrical contact cleaner or denatured alcohol for cleaning electronic switches. 2. Before trying any chemicals, try the method that another mentioned of holding the button down and blowing into the connector port (interface and charging port at the bottom). This worked for me and the button immediately started working better. When I first bought my iPod touch, I carried it in my front pants pocket a lot, and my theory is I think that lint and/or dust got in between the button and switch, causing it to be unresponsive. The alcohol trick will work if you've spilled something on the button, or if the unit is much older and thus more dirty. But if it's newer, try blowing it out first. Just my $.02.

its works!! i had read this some where else i did a combination of the compressed air and tape head cleaning solution, but some did go into my screen got a dark cloud used a powerful hair dryer on the screen and it evaporated the liquid(did a bit at a time so not to over heat my touch) its all back to normal now well done to the poster.

we have 2 ways:

1-we have to open one default program like clock hold power button till display slide shutdown , then releast the power button and hold home button till main page appears, after some seconds , you can use it.

2-cleaning home button by alcohol , by spraying on home button and pushing it twice.it will remove any dust or ... by diffiusing inside your ipod home button.there is no problem, alcohol will vaporize very fast.

Both of my daughters had this problem with their Ipod Touch 4th gens. First daughter got a replacement under warranty.

Second daughter found a GREAT solution. She used her mouth to suck on the button for just a moment. Sounds strange...but it corrected the problem immediately. Her button had been sticky and non-responsive, and blowing air into the charging port hadn't worked.

or you can put a little on a cottton swab (q tip) but not too much not dripping, just damp, and rub it on the home button then use compressed air and spray it onto the button (i guess under it sorta?) and that may fix it... ive read that before and to me it sounds a little safer than this but ummm yea so hope this helps! sorry if im wrong!:/

THANK YOU!!!!

I've had this problem for AN YEAR! All I had to do was pour very very little alcohol on the home button and push it for pretty much 3 minutes a lot, after that the "click" came back, but very slowly, and then once again and boom! as good as new. Doesn't seem like a permanent solution though, it keeps becoming sticky again

None of this work, it clicks, but it doesn't go to the home button, and i actually found another way also, you go and put it to charge and then you lock it and try and take a picture like when you hold the button and power and stuff and supposedly it works, thats what i did the first time it didn't work and it WORKED but not it doesn't, so now i'm alllll depressed!
