FIX for iPod Touch Home Button

Hi Everyone- first post.

I decided to register for this forum after finding a definitive 100% fix for a 1st gen iPod Touch 16gb home button unresponsive or nonfunctional.

1. Place 1 drop of rubbing alcohol on the home button.
2. Press the button repeatedly with pencil eraser making sure to get liquid into area surrounding button.
3. Dry off area with paper towel.
4. Press home button until it works again.

I was ready to buy a new one- and this was my last ditch effort. Now it works like new!

Hope this is helpful- be careful with the amount/type of liquid used- do not use water!!

Powerbook 12" 1.5ghz, Mac OS X (10.5.6), iPod Touch 16gb 1st gen

Hey non chemistry dudes. Use isopropyl 90% and you'll be fine. Military uses this to remove water instead of all the rice and dessicant crap. I soak my old mouses and small electronics in glasses of it for a few days then dry out and use them again. Just pull out batteries or use sparingly on home button. Waters affinity to alcohol is very high and together they have a much higher evaporation rate. They days and days faster than straight water.

Hi I've been reading through the posts as I'm having same problem recently with my iPod touch 4 and the home button. I went to settings then scrolled down to notifications and pretty much shut off almost all of them and it helped a great deal. My home button is now responding again. I had added an app from Comcast called " what's on " and I think that was the one in the notifications that was causing the real problem. This is what I found helped me so just thought someone else might find it helpful. I got the idea by looking at the diagnostic info in the settings menu.

I just wanted to add that you can find the diagnostic info by going to settings, general, about, and then scroll down to bottom of page and on my itouch it says diagnostics and usage. There you can see all the problems that have occurred on your device. At least I could, I have opted out of sending this info to apple so not sure if that makes a difference on what shows up there. Anyway that's how I got the idea of seeing which applications were listed the most in the problems and when they started to show up. Before I tried uninstalling them I first tried disabling them in the notifications and this made a huge improvement for me with the home button responding again.

Much better alternative to rubbing alcohol is CONTACT CLEANER. My iPhone 4's home button was stuck, and 2 months after using contact cleaner it still works perfectly fine.

This is a video I made about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixnVNhTFYfk

Contact cleaner (somehow) breaks down the dust and other crap underneath the home button. I posted a link to the contact cleaner I bought in the description of the video.

there is a way to quit an application without using the homebutton ofcourse... and i have the same problem with my home button as well.

now if u go to settings > general > accessibility > (scroll down) and you'll find assisstive touch > (Turn On)

This will make a little circle appear on the side of the screen that can help u do all sorts of stuff with out using buttons including the volume, locking the screen, roatating screen, closing windows and all sorts of stuff....

Hope it helps like it helped me... 🙂
