How Do I Stop Playback? I Mean Stop Not Pause..

I don't know how many times I've run my battery down to next to nothing because I couldn't stop the playback of a podcast or a song.

I don't mean Pause either; I mean Stop.

I've taken to starting a video then selecting done. That's the only way I've found to stop everything on the iPod..

What am I missing?

Pause and stop are the same thing. Press the home button to exit the music app while you are paused. If you press and hold the home button for 6-8 seconds, you can force quit the music app.

sorry, but pause and stop are not the same thing - if it's just paused it still uses battery life, if stopped it doesn't. Press the sleep/wake button on the top of the ipod for a few seconds and it turns off completley.

the easiest way to stop from playing a song, just go to the beginning of any song list whether it be a playlist or an album select the first song of the list, and press previous.

On an MP3 player they are the same thing and while paused it does not consume any battery life.

it's kind of dumb how pausing the ipod consumes battery life. why does that happen anyway?

An iPod is an MP3 player.

The Stop function on a device dates back to tape and CD players, where the heads would still be spinning (on tape machines) when it was paused. This is not true in MP3 players so the Stop function was dropped as it was redundant.

Okay..

So what I'm hearing is that there is no way to exit a song without selecting something else.

Seems like a UX miss to me..

yes there is.............

hold the paus/stop button (on the top of the ipod) until it comes up with slide to power off - slide it and your ipod is shut down. To start it up again, just hold it in again until the apple icon comes up.

No.

As Jim said earlier...

If you press and hold the home button for 6-8 seconds, you can force quit the music app.

That will stop the track.

If you want to remain in the music App, then pause will do, or select another track to play.

not what I've read on other posts - but I take your workd for it - just being curious though, if that is the case, why bother having 2 different options then, pause and stop?

but there isn't an option to stop.

i've read many articles on battery life, and have never seen anything to suggest that merely pausing music rather than stopping it will drain the battery.
