Just got my new ipod touch working and I just think it is awesome. I don't want to destroy the ipod or the screen. What is the best thing out there to protect it.

My wife and I both have had Touch's since around November. Neither one has the faintest scratch on it because we keep ours in leather cases. Besides, the screen is GLASS--not plastic. It CAN scratch, but not easily. We don't bother with screen protectors because the screens are glass. The leather case also minimizes greatly the chance of damaging the Touchs should they fall to the floor/ground. ALso, I can slip my Touch into my pocket, using the leather case, without fear that it will be damaged.

i use a silicon skin from the above manufacturer, and have done for just over a year. the back is a bit scratched, but not terribly, and i'm not too bothered about that.
i messed up putting on the screen protecter, so just gave up on it, and my screen is fine.
the best way to make sure your ipod is protected is just to look after it, dont do daft things like putting it in a pocket with a bunch of keys.

Will buying a sock or one of the Flip-e's help?
Help? Certainly. Guard against ALL possible pocket damage? Probably not (some people have admitted sitting on their touch), and NO case will protect against that.
i have mine in my pocket a lot. it's just common sense really. make sure it isn't in a pocket with anything that might damage it, make sure it is secure in your pocket i.e. it isn't going to fall out and hit the floor from a great height.
I have a leather case, covers front and back when the iPod isn't in use, that I've used since Nov. and the iPod is un-scratched.
I got it at Amazon for $8.
Those stick on screens are nice but , with my case, unnecessary.
The only things you really have to remember is that gravity is not an iPod's friend and to keep your keys in another pocket.

Have you considered a leather or clear case with belt clip? It serves the purpose of your iPod staying out of the pocket and you can safely it carry on your person with easy access. Also you might want to use a screen protector if you are concerned of any surface damage to the screen.
I do have a slider case for it that works good. I took my pretector off this morning because when I got my ipod replaced they guy did not put it on that good. I been woundering about FLIP-E's like SHIPPEY said, has anyone else used one? if so, would you keep in the FLIP-E while it's in your pocket. I also keep the ipod in it's own pants pocket LOL
I DO use the flip-e to carry my touch in my shirt pocket. I don't use the belt-loop that the flip-e has because I carry my touch in my shirt pocket.
I am very happy with it (I especially like the micro-fiber cleaning cloth that is part of it as well as it's ability to also hold my earphones).

how can it clean it when it's inserted
The micro-fiber cloth is attached to the case at one end but you can pull the other end out to wipe the screen. When you insert the cloth again in the case (flat), putting you touch in the case with the screen-side facing the cloth helps keep the screen clean.
You need to contact the manufacturer about availability.
I keep my iPod Touch in a Contour case which does not cover the screen but protects the body from damage. If I need to carry it in my pants pocket, or somewhere else that the glass might get scratched, I put it in a new zip lock sandwich bag. A cheap and very easily to replace solution. If the bag gets too wrinkled, I replace it and keep the bag to pack my lunch before I throw it away.

Don't put it in your pants pockets!
David and F Shippey are about on the mark. I have had mine for abut 15 months and only use an iPod sock, and then not all the time. The back is a bit less than perfect; but the glass is unmarked.
Is that true what "Shippey" says Don't put it in your pants pocket" I do take it to work with me (have it in my pocket all day). Will buying a sock or one of the Flip-e's help?
A really good film is Zagg Invisable Shield - available at www.zagg.com.
