opening dashboard using the trackpad

I was wondering if there is a way to use the trackpad to open/close dashboard?

I don't believe directly. However, you can configure Dashboard to open by dragging the cursor to one of the screen corners. This is configured in the ScreenSaver section of Desktop & ScreenSaver preferences by clicking on the Hot Corners button.

For any other trackpad configuration use the Trackpad preferences.
