I am trying edit duplicate books (created with the File > Duplicate Book command). I encounter lots of bizarre behavior in the copy but not in the original. The two most annoying are that I can't delete a photo from the book (using the Images > Remove from Album command) and the Show Unplaced Images button doesn't work. (Although, if it is active, strange things happen when I click on images in the browser.)
The result is that I find "Duplicate Book" to be essentially useless. Can anybody help me?
Mac Pro,
Mac OS X (10.5.6),
Aperture, Logic Studio
I tried Aperture on a different (PPC) computer with a different (and much smaller) library. That Aperture was still 2.1.2. It did NOT show the problem. I updated it to 2.1.3 - still no problem. I will try exporting the offending project, duplicating the book on another computer and reimporting the project on the original computer. I can see why I haven't had any replies - maybe I am the only observer of the problem...
I really would give that a try - something is amiss as I have use the crap out of books and have not experienced what you are describing. As you have noted - it doesn't happen to everyone or for that matter many people.
Make sure that you have another good back up before the rebuild - separate from your last good backup. (Actually I would probably just make a copy and try a rebuild on the copy to see what happens)
I have been able to avoid the inability to use "Images > Remove from Album". If I avoid using the "File > Duplicate Book", it does not happen. The method I use to duplicate the book (without using the command) is to export the enclosing project and then reimporting. I can then remove images from the book in the reimported project. Along the way, duplicate masters are created, but I can tolerate that. Maybe this could be avoided if I did not choose "Consolidate Masters" - I don't know...
