How to tell who is logged in to Xserve running 10.4.11?

It's an Xraid running 10.4.11

There is no concept of 'login' on an Xraid. An Xraid is a disk array. However, since you mention 10.4.11 I assume you're looking for users logged into the server that the raid is connected to, correct?

In that case, how are users 'connecting'? There are various ways of connecting to a server (console, ssh, AFP, NFS, even HTTP) so you need to be more specific.

If you want to know which users have a shell running on the server, run the who command in your own shell.
If you want to know which users are logged in via AFP, use Server Admin.
Other protocols may (or may not) have their own methods of determining 'login'.

Server Admin > AFP > > Connections. Camelot has already mentioned other methods. You can 'track' what's happening in terms of users creating files/folders etc by enabling the AFP log. SMB also logs users and IP addresses.

AFP logging is not retrospective. You have to enable it first.

Under Server Admin got to AFP and check the Connections tab. This will list all the logged in users, connection time, idle time etc.

Select the users and you can either choose "Send Message" which will pop-up a notice on the screen of those you've selected or choose "Disconnect" and set an X number of minutes and all the connected users will get a message that the server will shut down in X minutes. It will then disconnect all the users you selected.

Note that if you don't actually turn off AFP or restart the server people call re-connect to the server after the shutdown period is over so don't linger after you get everyone off.
