Canon XL-H1 Log and Capture

I have not worked with this camera very much or the HDV format and I'm trying to learn. (normally I shoot with the XDCAM)

I have 3 reels and when I captured the lo res files, I turned off the HDV output from the camera and had it down convert it to SD and captured it in FCP using an offline edit preset. worked great... I have my timecodes and edited my video.

Now I'd like to up res them to the HD versions, but when I try to capture the footage with the HDV output enabled on the camera, and FCP set to capture using HDV.... I get a dialog that only allows me to name the clip. No in or out points or batch capture.... it starts the camera right from where it's parked and starts capturing HDV footage....

is there a way to capture the HDV footage by timecode in and outs? I'm searching the web but can't seem to find a great explanation of the workflow...

Think I found it....

Went through the easy setup process and manually selected the HDV presets. (I thought I had done this already but I guess not)

I started an brand new project with the easy setups and selected the HDV - 1080i60 Firewire Basic (because I had read somewhere else that the canon xlh1 uses this setting) It didn't work. The camera was not recognized.

So I tried the normal HDV - 1080i60 Firewire (which states in the description that it's for use with sony cameras..... hmmmmmm.....) and it worked. go figure...

I now have a log and capture screen I'm used to. Now I'm going to see how it handles the rebatching process.
