Iomega Ultramax power failed

Hi there,
I have (I hope) a failed power supply (ACU057A-0512) on my 1TB Iomega Ultramax desktop external drive. Only had it just over a year and am furious that it's failed so soon and left me in the middle of an editing job unable to access about 500gb worth of media. Iomega's website say's the power supplies are all out of stock and from what I can tell from a little research, they normally are.
Does anyone know if an ACU057A-0512 for a LaCie will work with my Iomega drive?
Thanks in advance.

Hi MikeG5FCP-

Power supplies do seem to be a weak link at times. I use LaCie drives and always keep a spare around.

As far as compatibility of the power supply it is difficult to say at best. I wouldn't want to take a chance on ruining what you have saved. I would try a phone call to Iomega, as well as checking with a company like Other World Computing.

Luck-

The specs for the power supply are right on it. As long as you supply the same voltages with at least the same current (bigger is ok) to the right pins, it will work.

ie: if your original power supply is 5v 1.2a, 12v .5a, a replacement that supplies 5v 1.5a and 12v .5a is fine. One that supplies 5v 1.0a and 12v .5a should not be used. If the connectors don't match, you could cut the cable from the bad power supply and splice it to the cable for the good power supply. Solder and use heat shrink tubing for a professional quality connection.
